Thrashers at Nordiques...I mean, Jets at Avalanche Live Thread

Winnipeg Jets at Colorado Avalanche, Dec 27, 2011 7:00 PM MST

The Winnipeg Jets take on the Colorado Avalanche for just the 5th time ever...mostly because the other Jets moved to Phoenix one year after the Nordiques moved to Colorado. But this is the Atlanta Thrashers franchise, not to be confused with the Atlanta Flames who are now the Calgary Flames. The Jets did play the Rockies a few times after the Scouts moved from Kansas City and before the Rockies moved to New Jersey...I think I need a flow chart to track all of this.

by ProfessorOak on Dec 27, 2011 6:21 PM MST up reply actions

I have a smart phone. HTC Desire. No laptop. The reasoning for the Prime is that it would not only act as a tablet but also provides everything I want in a laptop (I would get the keyboard dock).

Eh I don’t now but I’d most certainly get one for travel purposes. Also a big plus for me about the Asus is that it plays FLAC. I have a couple dozen albums or so in that and would like to listen to them on the road when I’ve got either my Sennheisers or my Audio Technicas with me.

I’m a huge android fan. I’ll be moving just before next summer, so I’ll be in the market for another phone then. Pretty excited to see what will be out.

When tablets first came out I was really skeptical at their usefulness. I still view iPad’s as an oversized iPod touch, while the Android seem to be a bit more well executed. I was in the laptop market and 600-700 on a tablet as compared to a laptop makes a little more sense for me.

Music as well. Which is all a laptop would be for me in reality. Any android phone I have will be rooted so I’ll have wifi capability anywhere I go. It’s just a netbook but with an android OS which really intrigues me. That and sports news and the ability to watch hockey games on it.

I got the asus for xmas, loving it so far. The quad core is probably overkill at this point but I have beeb loving the androis os(honeycomb 3.2). Supposedly 4.0 will be released for the asus tabs in january. Ipad looks nice and is “trendy” but it does not offer alot of compatibility ie. rhapsody. And i hate apple products, when you work in an IT environment you will understand why the hate.

by Bourque16w on Dec 27, 2011 6:49 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

Well as proven by the pc community, software will catch up to quad cores and start utilizing them more. I’m fine with that. I don’t care about trendy…Apple just refuses to offer anything I want in a tablet. No HDMI support. No expandable storage. No USB support. Forced to use iTunes (hate that service). The list goes on and on for me. My Apple hate stems not from their refusal to include things I look for in a product but also the way they’re going overboard with the abuse of the patent system and trolling the courts. It gets out of hand.

Amen to that they are complete douches. Had a client that wanted us to integrate their apple servers into our domain, active directory service failed on day 1 and then shares would not work, nightmare to say the least. Btw, in 1997 jobs reached out to bill gates, got a 10 million dollar loan and begged that microsoft make its office product compatible with apples os. Yet years later the bastard attacks microsoft.

RnR is a fun place. They have shuffleboard.

Trouble is, I moved here just 4 months ago without knowing anyone, and I’m a teacher, so going to the sports lounge in Delta isn’t the best of ideas. Too small of a town.

So basically what I’m saying is, I need to find friends in Junction.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaan

Shane O’Brien’s fucking “look at me play with the puck!” routine is getting ridiculously old. The forwards should probably be more aware that when he’s on the ice at least one of them is going to have to cover for him at some point.

And that was a good no call on Duchene in front of the net. They got their legs tangled up, nothing purposeful.

I don’t mind it nearly as much when he does it in transition and gains entry into the zone but when you’re holding the puck in and all 3 of your forwards are entrenched in the zone, you have zero fucking reason not to cycle it or pass it along the blue line or ANYTHING BUT TRYING TO SKATE PAST 3 GUYS ALONG THE BOARDS ASG;KJHAS;DLRKFJA’SK;THG;SKJASD. Poor EJ having to deal with that shit. I bet Quincey is sitting in the box nodding sadly.

I dunno, it looks pretty interferey the way his leg whips Duchene’s out from under him.

uhhh...about 1:00 left in the first or so

Winnik took the pass and Duchene was cutting to the front of the net. On first look it totally looks like he got tripped but when I went back to watch it again it just looks like skates got caught up with each other and not in the “HAWHAW TOTALLY STUCK THAT LEG OUT THERE N GOT U DOOD”

Shane O’Brien is having a helluva night. He deserves one of the three stars of the night because oh my god. He pinches in and goes to a spot where a forward already was, ends up behind the WPG net, then comes out in front to hang out with one of the forwards, the breakaway happens and then he’s just standing around as his man scores without being touched. Wowowowowowowowowowowowowowowow

Makes perfect sense tonight

O’Brien has deserved the least amount of ice time and O’Byrne has been involved in the least dickfuckery so there’s that. Hunwick…I dunno. I can’t explain anything in regards to Hunwick but because Johnson got saddled with clown shoes O’Brien tonight he had his ice time cut to prevent to silliness. The pairing has since been split up. yay.

Stastny and Duchene have been flying tonight? The entire O’Reilly line has looked like dogshit, the defense looks lost and Giguere is having an old man game. Just not our night.

So the goalie they keep facing is playing lights out huh?

Yeah that must be it…that must be why Galiardi has more goals than Stastny AND Duchene in the past 5 games right? He must be facing a different goalie right…

EVERY night looks like they’re facing Patrick fucking Roy, I’m sick and tired of these excuses of “oh they’re trying out there” It’s happening every single night.

Stastny – 20pts in 32 games.
Duchene – 24pts in 37 games.

Sorry but those are some attrocious numbers… they both look they’d be lucky to hit 60 if you average

Duchene, if he scores 6points in the next 5 games is on pace to hit 60 points this year. He’s actually on pace to put up numbers similar to his first year… that’s a regression.

I have no idea wtf is going on with Stastny, he looks to be on a pace to hit 50, a huge drop.

Difference being

All of those guys contributed elsewhere on the ice. Hunwick, Elliott, and EJ all produced scoring chances at some point. O’Byrne never does and Hejda would’ve had a great scoring chance had it not been for the slashing Wheeler dropped on him and he ended up drawing the penalty anyway. O’Brien was bad on offense, bad on defense, and bad mentally. His best decision all night was to drop the gloves and get out of there.

PAvelec is a very solid goalie.

Elliott’s duffed wrister attempt made me legit blow a raspberry IRL… which I’m still lol’ing about.

Datsyuk may have done it first, but he learned it from Peter Forsberg.

Not too bad to end it against the east. Wasn’t a 4-point game at least

that was not a fun game to watch. We will get them next time.

We just had back-to-back games against the Wild and the Thrashers. That any of us still have a heartbeat above coma levels is a miracle in itself.

THis, and the boys had to travel play and travel all in one day. That is tough.

by avalanchejef on Dec 27, 2011 9:22 PM MST up reply actions

Back to back after Christmas had to be tough. Honestly.

Carolina played yesterday, Pitt did not. 4-2 Pens.
Columbus played yesterday, Calgary did not. 2-1 (SO) Flames.
Detroit and St. Louis both played yesterday.
Colorado played yesterday, Winnipeg did not. 4-1 Jets.

100% of possible points there for teams who didn’t play yesterday vs. teams who did… :\

Team landed in Denver before midnight

were in town all day. Back-to-backs are still hard, of course, but in terms of travel this was about as easy as it gets for home-away b2bs.

Two plane rides in one day is what I was calling tough.

by avalanchejef on Dec 27, 2011 9:28 PM MST up reply actions

They had two days with no practice, a really early morning yesterday, a flight, no practice, a pretty hard game, a flight, a non-full night’s sleep, optional practice, and then another club with a hot goalie. Whether it was sleepiness or just leaving their brain somewhere over Nebraska, they weren’t as sharp as usual tonight.

stealing andi’s 10 thoughts:
1. If Avs scored 1st in this game? They win, no question. They had the better of the Jets for a good part of the first. Stastny line in particular
2. Victims of some VERY bad luck tonight. very very bad luck, especially early on
3. Varlamov probably starts the nest game me thinks, riding a good win in minny, good opportunity to let him find a groove
4. Who is this bad Landeskog? Make him go away
5. First night I can remember where O’Reilly hasn’t been fantastic
6. Kane is talented, but I’ll keep Duchene thank you
7. Pavelec is also good
8. After playing with Ken Klee today, i assure you all of our D, O’Brien included are better than him
9. Jets jersey’s still suck
10. Just a bad/unclucky night, tough off of the back to back. I think they said Winnipeg was here at altitude longer than us? At any rate, bad nights happen, be glad it was an eastern conference team, didnt give anything up by losing really.

11. I really think we got screwed on luck this game… especially early

that sequence with him on the PP early in the third where he stumbled around with nobody on him and then flubbed a pass when he wasn’t under pressure was real cool. I actually lol’d irl and on commercial break went back to watch it again.

Yep. I personally think that we were just a tinch behind them mentally. We had a lot of really good chances that we just couldn’t get past their goalie, and we made some turnovers we usually don’t that they capitalized on.

It happens. I just hope they sleep well tonight and move on for practice tomorrow.

So here's what I'm thinking on Stastny

10-game ppg averages after each game of his whole god damn career. (Starting at game 10 of season 1 of course.) It’ll take a good while but thanks to hockey-reference can be done I think. Stuff I’ll be looking for his averages to drop against:

-Losing Sakic, Forsberg
-Switching from wood to composite sticks
-Losing Stewart, just so Peter Stastny doesn’t feel left out
-Sacco
-Each year and each break

Anything else you guys can think of?

Yeah...

no idea where the dig that up. I know each team’s official site handles that kind of archived information differently but they all cut it off at a calendar year at most (and really, I think that’s just Calgary). You could probably just go through his game log and check TOI. Heh, notice how I said YOU.
