It looks like Quebec is getting the NHL-ready arena. Let the relocation rumors begin.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government has a new plan to funnel millions of federal tax dollars into a controversial plan to build a new NHL arena in Quebec City, CBC News has learned.

Sources tell CBC News that the Conservative government is considering allowing part of the federal gas tax revenues to be used for construction of "large entertainment centres" such as the proposed new Quebec City arena.

Buried in the last line of the Denver Post article talking about Craig Anderson's leave, T.J. Galiardi 's injury, Kyle Cumiskey's re-injured head, the news of Holøs and John Grahame's call ups. This tidbit.

Peter Forsberg, who is expected to rejoin the team at Friday's morning skate, could make his season debut against Columbus.

That's the happy in all of this? I don't know. Whatever is going on with Andy, I wish him the best.

A preview of the game

The Colorado Avalanche's offense has been ineffective lately. That hasn't been the case when they've faced the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Colorado can halt its worst losing streak in nearly two years by winning its seventh in a row over the Blue Jackets on Friday night at Nationwide Arena.

What was the worst streak, you ask? If you must know... between March 15th and April 1 st, 2009 the Avs went 0-7-1.  Yeah, those apples hurt.

Trading season has started and one of the Burgundy and Blues is being mentioned as a potential player. Who do you think it is? If I were to say Highlander, what would you think?

Other hired guns that could be available at the right price include Columbus Blue Jackets Derek Dorsett or Jared Boll, Colorado Avalanche roughneck Cody McLeod

Highlander? Yeah…see ya.

No offense, but when we kept him of McCormick, I thought the Avs made the right decision. He just isn’t the same agitator he used to be, and he’s not adding anything offensively like he looked like he was going to be able to do

I’m disappointed, too. Not because his offensive output is close to zero, I miss the mad, pissed off McLeod who throws an octopus.

What's with Craig Anderson?

Only through our Daily Cupcakes did I find out about him taking a leave of absence. I thought his head was somewhere else because his play is not good right now. I hope he can get his act together, along with the rest of the team.

I make a mean peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Can his feet and ankles carry the weight of the whole team, the season, and maybe the survival of the franchise?

And I wonder if it is just a coincidence that the Avs sent our their season ticket renewal packages right after signing Foppa?

An end to this "When" thing. When.

by Bob in Boulder on Feb 11, 2011 9:34 AM MST up reply actions

Is that Quebec City news article really dated February 10th? Cuz it just seems like soooo yesterday’s news. In fact, I thought it was yesterday that the news reported that the Federal government was jilted when it came to who was going to pay for the arena.

It turns out that the city and the province want all the credit, so they’re paying for the rink without the Feds. I expect tomorrow I’ll read about Foppa making a comeback with the Nords.

by Spezzal Teams Playa on Feb 11, 2011 9:39 AM MST reply actions

I honestly worry about KC. They have a relatively new arena without any major league tenants. Kroenke is from Missouri and now of course owns the Rams. Plus he has been in pure cost cutting mode for the better part of the past few years.

There is a buzz around the building that Forsberg will play tonight, but until we hear that from the man himself in about an hour or so, nothing is final. As I type this, he is skating at left wing on a line with Matt Duchene and Milan Hejduk.

Can’t we just give Dater’s credentials to Beachie?

I seriously want to like Dater’s stuff and I’m sure he couldn’t give a fig otherwise, but his articles and books have an underlying tone of unhappiness and cynicism. For a man who has unparalleled access to a team, he doesn’t express a lot of the lighter stuff in the locker room.

He often admits that he’s a terrible pessimist so that’s not a surprise. The only two things I blame him for are that he’s overreacting a lot (especially his twitter during games) and the lack of insider stories, for example an interesting story about a player’s life.

I am not sure if Foppa on Duchene line would be the best fit for either. Would it slow the line down? Then again it could create more room for Duchene to play. I thought more or

It’s not like they’ve been brining a ton of speed to the game lately anyway.

Other than the obvious storyline here of Forsberg, what do you guys think Andy is away from the team for?
Speculation is almost never mirrored in truth but in rumor, so maybe we shouldn’t draw any conjectures here about TRADES, COACH FUEDS, or dat ANDY IS TEH SUXXORZ!

Let’s just leave the guy alone and hope everything works out. In the meantime, Let’s go Avs!

by HansoBonanzo on Feb 11, 2011 10:29 AM MST reply actions

I think that time will tell. You could draw a dozen conclusions from Andy’s withdrawal from the team. One might be right, but you wouldn’t get confirmation any time soon, if at all.

Let’s let Andy be and cheer on the second (or is it third) coming of Foppa

I really hope ESPN are carrying it……
