Hypothetical question
Bob Hartley is out there. The only coach in the history of everything in the Universe who has had Ilya Kovalchuk for an entire season and made the playoffs. If the Avs replaced Sacco with Harley would you agree or disagree with that decision?

No. No Hartley. Sorry.

Andy is our starting goalie... so suck it people!
No need to say sorry...
Though I’m curious to hear the “why” of the “no”…
I do think Sacco should get the rest of the season but am baffled in general over the blameless Joe arguments. He doesn’t have a well built roster but his decisions seem to be making a bad thing worse. So if there is no change, there should be in the off season.
The Avs stay in house, unfortunately. That leaves Roy and David Quinn as the likeliest candidates to replace Sacco. Maybe the ship has sailed between Hartley and Lacroix but Hartley would still be an in house candidate. And aside from Forsberg, Hejduk and Foote, he’s got a fresh set of ears for the rest of the team. I’d like to see an experienced coach have a crack at our inexperienced squad.

I kinda think Hartley’s been effectively black-listed as a NHL coach, to be honest.
I'm firmly convinced that hockey is played on a golden sheet of ice in Heaven.
I know he lost the Avs the season he was fired. And the rumors out of Atlanta was that he lost his players even quicker.
Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
He’s not the only coach to have lost teams. Before he lost those teams, he had success with them. The Thrashers improved every season until they finally made the playoffs. The playoffs were a disappointment and he was fired quickly after a bad start the following season.
But that’s how it goes with coaches. There’s only a few coaches that stay in one place for a long time. So if it appears Sacco has lost the team already, we may need to settle for one that will lose the team 2-3 years from now.
He’s not the ideal candidate. But until Avs management proves it can be creative about hiring it’s coaching staff (i.e. looking at candidates with no prior connection to the organization), he’s a better candidate than the others they’d likely look at. This of course not assuming bridges were burned during his ouster with the Avs the first go around, which could very well be the case.

Yes before Sacco. No after. Their styles are similar and Hartley would have perhaps been a better choice than Sacco at the time. However, Hartley’s message/approach will wear out quickly in the post-Sacco era.
The Avs need a different message. I don’t think Hartley’s is substantively so.
I also wonder, now that it is clear that the cupboard is well-stocked (except Defense) if Roy might be more amenable than he was before.
His competitive fire seems to be just the thing. Plus, as a former goalie, I would think his knowledge of defensive players/schemes could really benefit the current Avs.
Hunwick- Twice as good as Holos when seen through the (extremely) narrow lens of takeways!
do we really know if roy knows defensive schemes? Sure the Remparts have a great record but that’s one hell of a jump. Sure this team may need someone to tear off a closet door on them but who know if he can actually coach. They need a sure thing right now. Larry Robinson might be nice for the next 2 years.
Each of my replies is a work of art, each more brilliant than the last.
