All sorts of talk in the hockey world about concussions lately. Mark Messier is trying to get more people to use the Cascade helmet. One interesting bit of information, there is an Avalanche player that is using the M 11 helmet. Can you guess who it is?

 

At the NHL level, besides McDonald, players who have donned the M-11 include Los Angeles Kings teammates Willie Mitchell and Kevin Westgarth, Colorado Avalanche tough guy David Koci as well as Minnesota Wild centre Pierre-Marc Bouchard, and Anaheim's Dan Sexton, Cam Fowler, Toni Lydman and Luca Sbisa.

"You need to be out there promoting your brand," Swangard said in an interview. Given the successes of the team in the 1990s, "I would have assumed that that would have afforded a great opportunity to build that community base of fan support," he said.

"Complacency is a very dangerous thing [when it comes to a pro sports franchise]," he said. "Through good and bad, you need to build equity with your fan base."

But make no mistake, this is a good hockey town.

The American Hockey League announced today that John Grahame of the Lake Erie Monsters has been named the Reebok/AHL Goaltender of the Month for January. Grahame made 13 starts in January and went 10-3-0 with a 1.85 goals-against average, a .925 save percentage and one shutout
