The Avalanche today have recalled defenseman Shawn Belle from Lake Erie, which means the team may be expecting to be without Matt Hunwick and / or Ryan Wilson and / or Adam Foote on Saturday. Belle was acquired at the deadline for Kevin Montgomery and has 3 points in 8 games for Lake Erie. Belle was drafted in the first round of the 2003 draft by St Louis, 30th overall. Coincidentally, the Avs high pick that year was David Liffiton in the 2nd round; they had traded their first round pick in the Rob Blake trade (Brian Boyle).

Belle is listed at 6'1", 235 lbs and shoots left. He has played in 16 NHL games (Montreal, Minnesota and Edmonton) and has 1 career point - an assist - and, oddly, no penalty minutes (he has close to 400 penalty minutes in his AHL career.
