Hockey Wilderness' Community Mock Draft: The Avs are on the clock!
We at Hockey Wilderness are going through the entire first round, letting the community vote on the draft choice for each team. Well, today the Avs are on the clock. We would love it if the members of MHH came over and helped us make the pick!
The first pick overall is tricky, blow that, and as a GM, your career is likely over. No one wants to draft Alexadre Daigle when they could have had Sidney Crosby. The Hockey Wilderness community, along with some help from the community at The Copper & Blue chose to take the safe choice. With the first overall pick in the Hockey Wilderness Community 2011 NHL Mock Draft, they chose: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
Congrats, and all that.
Now we move on to the next trickiest position to draft in. Every year there is a false contest about which player will be the first overall selection. More often than not, there is a 1A and 1B. This year, not many people believe that, although there was some clamoring from the Oiler fans for Adam Larsson.
Who will the Avs take with their pick? Make the jump, read who Hockey Wilderness thinks they should take, and cast your vote for the Avs pick.

Mr. Reynolds has fairly well alienated the MHH regulars with his behavior here at Mile High Hockey. I won’t be participating.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Essentially, fans of other teams are voting on who the Avs should draft when those people do not follow the Avs. Brilliant.

to be fair, they did come over and ask us to help.

Seriously...
and if the poll results spurned the bitchy comment, it was noted in the thread that the results were inaccurate.

Oh, I see. Yeah, i shouldn’t have responded with such vitriol. I just found it annoying that Larrson and Landeskog got 16 votes out of 1100.

I went over and gave a very restrained, informative response. And I voted, altho the poll seems to have shit a brick.
Thanks, Joe... Thanks, Peter.... Thanks, Adam....
I think B-Rey sabotaged the poll. Seriously, I do. Oh well. I refuse to join their blog. Especially since SB Nation has the “Hotel California” feature of allowing you to check in but never leave.

Who is this Steven Bartschi guy that is just edging out Couturier?
Datsyuk may have done it first, but he learned it from Peter Forsberg.
Thanks for everything Foppa!

Rec’d for the Hotel California reference.
Because....fuck the Red Wings!

So, I had a thought pertaining to this reference yesterday. does the lyric, “you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave” refer to the residents at the Hotel California being ghosts, or what?

My biggest problem with mock drafts is that so often the people conducting them draft based on what they want vs what their franchise wants. Good to see some people made the distinction in the comments there. (sup, bubs?)

No offense to the author of this post (as I don’t know him or her), but there can be no good reason on “gods” green earth that I will EVER go to BRey’s blog. Let alone join it.

A couple others apparently share this sentiment. Now I’m curious, what did this guy do that pissed off so many MHH’ers?
No soup for you!
BRey called Foppa despicable and meant it.
He wrote a piece ripping Forsberg apart for trying to come back to the NHL and even compared him to Favre iirc. But that wasn’t enough, when he didn’t get us to flock to his block to call him out, he came over here and tried to light a fire….
The whole “despicable” meme started because of his article.
Datsyuk may have done it first, but he learned it from Peter Forsberg.

If I remember rightly he started a 500-post war over whether calling someone an idiot and calling their opinion idiotic were the same thing.
I make music. I don't think it's despicable, do you?
And was in general a holier-than-thou, condescending douche to, well, most of us.
Which is fine. Our blog is more popular and has a lot more fun :3

Voted for Larrson
But not going to sign up for the blog in order to confirm my vote. Looks like someone hacked the poll: Bartschi is the run-away winner.
Somehow random draft choices will win until Minnesota drafts their chosen player. I suppose everyone needs to have fantasies.

Larrson
If he is the consensus #2, then that’s who the Avs will take. They already stated that they will draft the best player available.
=================== 21 ===================
That’s the thing he’s not, nobody is. Every ranking has a different ranking, except, they all seem to have RNH at the top.

what i put on their site for those of you boycotting brey:
I like Couturier better than both, but that’s just me. Landeskog seems like you’d be taking Chris Gratton over Paul Kariya—Gratton had a good career but…..
With Couturier you get a guy that had mono, and still managed to improve his #‘s while also being defensively responsible center (well as much as you can in the Q). Unless they feel his skating can’t be improved upon. I worry a little bit about Huberdeau since he kind of came out of no where (I don’t believe he was in the top 15 at Christmas) so he’s being judged on 3 or 4 months of hockey. But who knows, maybe he figured it all out over that time and is that good.
Larsson wouldn’t be a bad pick either, I’d be a little concerned that he’s the next Mike Rathe and not the next Lidstrom.

If the scouts are sold on Larsson as the real deal than I say take him. If not I would take Landeskog or try and trade down a few picks and take Strome. I can see that kid becoming something special in a few years.

Why
In the hell would you trade down when you already have pick #11?

I can’t see the point in EVER trading down. At the very least, you get a top guy that has serious trading power.
Oh, and Detroit? You can stop believin' now.

if you think one of florida or NJ really wants Larsson or Huberdeau, and you’re ok with getting Couturier I’m ok picking up an extra 2nd and a player for moving down a spot or two.

Im not. Not in hockey drafting. Ill trade down all day in football.
If you need some further convincing, Jibb’s work on the subject is pretty damn fine.
Thanks, Joe... Thanks, Peter.... Thanks, Adam....
In our current draft slot
I agree. It would have to be a pretty good offer. The second pick is just too good. Picking where we did last year? That’s a pretty good trade down spot.

So Huberdeau got the votes but they gave us Landeskog anyway. Too funny, every team wants us to take Landeskog, so they can take Huber or Couturier.
the more I think about it the avs will probably take any but him.
Adam Larsson. When? Ok, if not him how about that Couturier kid?

I think we’ll see some pretty crazy picks within the first 15. So maybe, yeah. If that happens, I wouldn’t mind the Avs picking him at #11. It’s a little unlikely, but much more likely than previous drafts.
Just for fun, I’m going to guess what zandar is about to say. So zandar, don’t read the rest, until after you reply to my comment above.
What? There is no way in hell he’s going to drop past three. Teams would have to be stupid to pass on him.
I’m not so sure about that last sentence, but I’m pretty sure the first part is pretty close.
Zandar, how did I do? Don’t take offense, I respect your opinion, but I think I know it well enough to guess it.
