Chris Drury, Av?
I'd like to make this some sort of grandiose trade that the avs would somehow score Staal and/or Dubinsky/Callahan. I'd also like to say this will happen because the avs would be trying to undo one of their worst trades. You know why it will happen? Chris Drury, has a 7.05 cap hit, yet only a 5 mill salary. It's all about the -A- ....er....all about the cap floor.
Drury and a #2 for a 7th. and he'll be the 4th line forward. Or in dream world, reunited with Hedjuk, and with Duchene at center we won't have to worry about Mueller or Fleischmann.

Maybe it's just me
But I’ve always thought that Chris Drury was overrated. Yes, he was clutch during the playoffs, especially at a young age, but his overall production and talent surely doesn’t warrant his big contract. I wasn’t happy to see him traded away, but I also woudn’t want the team to take on his current Rangeresque contract.
We see a wonderful sun-soaked city nestled at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Enos sees nickels and dimes.
i'd take him
…after they buy him out. I’ve always liked Drury, and he’s a good leader and defender still. He’d be a great “veteran presence” like we’ve been clamoring for.

Hensick stats: 13 games, 1g/2a/3p THOMAS/DETAVS: I WANT MY $20
I don’t really want him right now, maybe after a buyout at a 1.2 mil salary….more or less I was saying that would be the sort of move a cheap franchise might make.

and it’s exactly the kind of mistake the Avs have been making too often lately… trying to re-live the past.
on the 4th line and 2nd pp? I don’t really care.

I was glad to see Drury go (I assumed we would get something of value back for him) because he would just turn into this tunnel vision black hole for the puck. When you need a big goal it was awesome but his line mates suffered.
I wouldn’t mind him coming back as a veteran leader who has a winning drive. If the numbers make sense.

no way the Avs bring that cap hit or payroll into their budget. By doing so would show to the others that they are ok with paying someone 5 million who is not a top line player… even if it is only for a year. The Avs will continue to make budget trades unless they can really add to their core (EJ trade, etc)
Languishing for Landeskog
Drury and a #2 for a 7th.
I don’t think so – I would say the amount required to make this trade would be about half-way between your proposal and the Smyth-Quincey deal.
Regardless, I’m not that keen on getting Drury back – if we have a surplus of anything its 3/4th line forwards and tweeners (and defenseman of course)
We have both a surplus, and desperate need for defensmen

I’ve been thinking this was a good idea for a while, only because it means that the Avs would get a payoff from this massive cap space they have. I never cared if Drury actually played a shift for us; I just wanted that draft choice. However, I am now fully resigned to the fact that the Avs are just cheap, and instead of taking on a horrible short-term salary accompanied by a high draft pick, the Avs will just sit on their hands and wait for those high draft picks to keep rolling in due to futility.
I guess the monetary value of a top prospect is lower than $5M per year.
4th biggest pessimist of MHH.
if the avs did get drury, it would mean they’d ship SoS out, they probably wouldn’t even care if he played, a lot like pressing.

What is with all the love for Drury. He has been gone from the Avs for more than 8 years and he was never any better than a 60 point player. The Rangers are wishing they never got him because in 4 season with them he has done nothing and he will most likely be bought out. There is no reason in the world why the Avs should acquire him. He is hands down the most overpaid player in the league and he contributes almost nothing to the team he is on. I’m sick of these love fests with former Avs. If it is Sakic or Roy than okay, but just shut up already about washed up players who just happened to once play for the Avalanche.
I don’t really want Roy back. Have you seen him lately? I guess he would take up more of the goal now, but I bet his mobility has suffered.

What I meant was I understand why people still appreciate Roy. I didn’t mean he was coming out of retirement. What I’m sick of is everyone saying they should get a player just because they used to play for the Avalanche. Management is obviously not going to make a bad move like that so there is no point about even discussing it.
I would absolutely take Drury
if it’s the type of deal where the Avs give up basically nothing and pick up a decent pick or prospect.
The problem is that, for some reason, such deals aren’t nearly as common as they are in the NBA. I don’t know why; the only thing I can think of is that it’s a lot more common to get a pretty good NHL player in the late 1st/2nd round than it is in the NBA. But who knows?
