Just for Fun: Dream Team
Happy offseason! I'm bored and curious.... so he's a fun random question. If you could put together a team of any CURRENT NHL players without restrictions (including salary), who would you choose? And second question: if the Avs were able to bring in only one player off your roster who doesn't already play for the Avs, who would you want?
I think my team would look like:
Ovechkin / Crosby / Iginla
Parise / Stamkos / Kane
Van Riemsdyk / Duchene / Nash
Sharp / Kesler / Stewart
Yandle / Weber
Chara / E. Johnson
Liles / Pietrangelo
Thomas
Fleury
And Zach Parise would be my player of choice, although Fleury is a VERY close second. (And yes, I do tend to select with my heart rather than my head, thanks for noticing!) I'm still new to hockey, so I know I've missed some great candidates.... so who would you chose?

I would have Toews over Kesler, but other than that, I like the picks

I actually debated between those two – I almost put “Kesler or Towes” because I kept switching them. I went with Kesler because he’s American. Homerism coming through.

No Datsyuk? He’s phenominal, redwing or not

Are we talking Dream Team for one season? Or a franchise?
My one player for the Avs would be Ryan Miller. A stellar work-horse of a goalie would have the biggest positive impact on this team, easy.

Either one. I’m just trying to expand my hockey knowledge here by hearing who other people really like so I can watch them and learn.

One shot to win a game:
Perry – Crosby – St Louis
Ovechkin – Datsyuk – Stamkos
Zetterburg – Toews – Giroux
E. Staal – Thornton – Iginla
For the longer term, I’d just go younger. Drop St Louis, Zetterburg, Datsyuk, Thornton and Iginla for Duchene, Tavares, JVR, Mike Ricahrds and Skinner. The team gets a bit small then though, so I’d consider switching in Bobby Ryan or Nash. Either that or just compensate with huge f*ckers on D.

I said “Dream Team” not “Nightmare Team!”
But I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and ignore the fact you have a couple dead things douching up your roster. Sure they’re good players, but come on man! Why do you hate the Avs? lol

Yeah, I went with “Winning Team”. If we’re just picking a team full of guys we like watching play, then:
JVR – Toews – Giroux
Lecavalier – Stamkos – St Louis
Parise – Bolland – Kane
Duchene – Stastny – Skinner

He is one of the few goalies that is not a product of his surroundings. There are very few actual star caliber goalies, he is def one of them, throw Thomas in that mix as well.

I’m assuming you’re talking about his age, which doesn’t fit in with my team much. I agree, after I posted it, I thought about that too. But his skill and offensive production can’t be ignored. But, because of the age, I probably would put somebody else there (perhaps Christian Ehrhoff or J McBain), for the long-term.
Done
Hejduk/Sakic/Tanguay
Drury/Forsberg/Kamensky
Jones/Stastny/Stewart
Mueller/Duchene/Fleischman
Blake/Bourque
Liles/E. Johnson
Ozolinsh/Foote
Roy
Anderson
A man who stole my whisky used the defense that no one could resist a bottle of Scotch. I had no choice but to testify on his behalf.
Missing Theo Fleury, Lemuix, Dave Andreychuk, Jari Kurri, Deadmarsh, Paul Kariya, Teemu Selann…man the avs have had some great players come through here…I’m still probably missing quite a few…On D we had Darius Kasparitis at some point….Avalanche dream team may beat even Montreal Canadians dream team….
I’d put Tomi Salo behind Roy instead of Andy…

Even so, right now the Avs have great players. Not quite as many, but some.

the guys I listed are pretty much all time legends (except for deadmarsh)…they would trump anybody on our roster….

Based upon their “entire career” and the current players’ short one?

yes…Duchene is vary promising, but I wouldn’t take him above anybody I listed (except for maybe maybe Drury). If Dutchy continues to progress he would make it onto my team. He hasn’t proven anything yet (except that he can get close to sixty points). Similar argument with EJ.

great players come through here
I’ve always felt a little cheap claiming Bourque as an Av, but he was solidly a huge piece of this franchise without question.
Andreychuck mounted 3 points for the Avs in 14 games. Kurri, Kariya and Salanne are all unquestionably great players, but each only played one season here and it was arguably their worst season over the entirety of their careers.
How about we do an All-Time Avs Team only using time played as an Av?

Here's mine
Tangauy – Sakic – Hejduk
Kamensky – Forsberg – Fluery
Brunette – Stastny – Deadmarsh
Symth – Drury – Duchene
Blake – Bourque
Ozolinsh – Foote
Liles – Gusarov
Roy
Roy doesn’t need a flippin’ back up

yeah, I deffinately thought about that…I was just making a team of the “best players to ever suit up for the avs”…not “lets see what they did in Colorado”…if we are doing it that way, things would be way way way different…

Thank you AvalancheDB!
Strictly by number of games in an Avs uniform, this is what the lines look like
Tanguay / Sakic / Hejduk
Wolski / Forsberg / Deadmarsh (and yes, I am as disturbed as you are to see Wolski on Foppa’s wing)
Kamensky / Yelle / Hinote
McLeod / Stastny / Svatos
Foote / Liles
Klemm / Messier
Skoula / de Vries
Clark
Roy
Budaj
But since I had to go to #32 on the list to get Budaj, there were a few players that played more time than him that didn’t make the first roster because their position filled up quickly. So, adding in Brunette, Drury, Lapperriere, Lemieux, Ozolinsh, Blake, Lefebvre, Miller, Gusarov, Skrastins, and Hannan, then choosing by what actually makes sense:
Tanguay / Forsberg / Hejduk (AMP BABY!!!!)
Kamensky / Sakic / Deadmarsh or Hinote
Brunette / Stastny / Lemieux
McLeod / Yelle / Laperriere
Gusarov / Foote
Liles / Klemm
Ozolish / Blake
Lefebvre
Roy
Budaj
Just a Colorado girl in Montana who <3s the Avs.
Avs All Time Team
Selanne/Sakic/Kariya (remember the “chemistry” we were all promised?)
Kurri/Forsberg/Lemuix
Duke/Andreychuk/Fleury
Deadmarsh/Stastny/Drury
Blake/Bourque
Ozolinsh/Foote
Gusarov/Kasparitis/Liles
Roy
Salo
Anderson

Are you BReynolds?
Datsyuk may have done it first, but he learned it from Peter Forsberg.
Thanks for everything Foppa!
