New Assistant Coach: Adam Deadmarsh
Yesterday, we learned that assistant coach Steve Konowalchuk was leaving to coach the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds. Today, the Avalanche have announced his replacement: Adam Deadmarsh. The former Avalanche forward has been the Avs' video coach for the last two years.
Replacing Deadmarsh as video coach will be Tim Army, who recently was the head coach at Providence College. Army has a long history with Joe Sacco - he was an assistant with both the Ducks and Capitals for about 5 of Sacco's seasons as a player with those teams.

God forbid they hire anyone with any experience. This will hurt the avs in the long run with all these rookie coaches.
Available for a 3rd round pick.

At least Army has some experience. 5yrs as an NHL assistant isn’t a lot but it’s more than the rest of the coaching staff combined.
Datsyuk may have done it first, but he learned it from Peter Forsberg.
Thanks for everything Foppa!

Why wasn’t he made the assistant coach, then? Oh, Avalanche. Continuing to make nepotism popular.

I don’t think it matters. He has a ton of hockey experience on and off the ice and that makes him as qualified as anyone else. From video coach to assistant makes a lot of sense to me. Where else would you find an assistant? Everyone sees the position as a stepping stone, so other assistants aren’t going to be interested in another assistant job, they all want a head coaching job. I think promoting from within works great because everybody knows they can move ahead, if they work really hard and perform well. Wouldn’t you rather have all employees like that, instead of a bunch of burn-outs that know they will never get promoted?
I love Deader and I’m glad to see him sticking around, one of my favorite Avs ever. If he can just teach Galiardi to play more like him, this will be perfect

out of the playoff hunt at the all star break imo, and it won’t be a full house cleaning.

For those that haven’t seen it. Denver drew a 14 share for game 7. That’s a massive number. Only behind Boston, Providence and Buffalo. So yeah, talk of Denver not being a good hockey town can just go suck it.

first number is percentage of total tvs/households in the market tuned to the show, 2nd is the percentage of TVs that were on during that time.

So 7.2/14 for Denver means about half of the tvs that were on yesterday evening were tuned to the Cup Final? That’s pretty decent.
by MalachiConstant on Jun 16, 2011 11:53 AM MDT up reply actions
no, 14 percent of TVs on in denver, 7.2 percent of all tvs in the denver market. half the tvs were on last night.

Deadmarsh is my all time favorite player so I am very happy about that. My dream is him being head coach of Avs one day. All of you who do not agree with this move you are …. well I just don’t like you.
I think all most all of us absolutely loved Deader as a player, even after he was traded to LA and helped to beat the evil wheel. Those of us who are disappointed just wish that the organization would put some more experience behind the bench.

Pretty much exactly this.
Love the guy as a player but I’d really like to see an inexperienced head coach flanked by wily vet assistants, not guys who were playing in the NHL less than a decade ago.
