I guess this falls in the realms of "silliness" but...
Buffbry | Tuesday, 07 June 2011 at 12:54 pm maybe the wings can package this years first 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th and hudler and flip and ericcsons rights and emmerton to the avs for the 2nd overall and 11th overall picks. and with the 2nd overall pick the det redwings take Adam Larsson and with the 11th overall pick detroit redwings take Jamison Oleksiak,. we got 2 stud d prospects woooo! oh by the way i know it would never happen just a pipe dream but i wishLeafsFan | Tuesday, 07 June 2011 at 1:27 pm plus why would you trade all 7 picks, and 3 good players for 2 picks? especially with the wings drafting record in the later roundsBuffbry | Tuesday, 07 June 2011 at 1:46 pm cause why else would the avs give up 2 top 11 picks? 1 of them being the 2nd overall. it obviously will never happen i said it was a pipe dream. and i would 100% do that deal if avs agreed. you really think any of those 7 picks will even equal larsson let alone the other stud we get at 11. Larsson replaces lidstrom it’s perfect

You know when it’s really bright out and you know you shouldn’t look at the sun, but you do? That’s how I feel when I read the comment section on hockey sites. Except this one! I mean except this one!
A man who stole my whisky used the defense that no one could resist a bottle of Scotch. I had no choice but to testify on his behalf.

I’m facinated by stupidity myself. I love how the first guy knows his pile of crap isn’t very good but ‘knows’ that the avs are too stupid to figure that one out. Yet he has to explain that to the even dumber guy.
Available for a 3rd round pick.

here's another great one:
OTT acquiring Top 5 pick while keeping #6
What would it take for OTT to acquire one of the top 5 picks in this year’s draft? The goal is to do so without losing key players on the current roster and keeping our #6 draft pick. Blue chip prospects Cowen and Rundblad are also off limit. So what’s left you say? Well most of our current roster, most of the Binghamton Senators and the following draft picks:
- Pick #21 (1st round)
- Pick #35 (2nd round)
- Pick #48 (2nd round)
- Pick #59 (2nd round)
- Pick #65 (3rd round)
I think there’s a pool of promising prospects and an abundance of picks to perhaps entice a team to trade away their top 5 pick to us… is there enough worthy assets here to get a deal done?

Derek Zona over at copper and blue put together a hypothetical a little while ago:
I am offering you the 7th overall pick for your pick numbers 46, 76, 106, 136, 166 and 196. All else being equal, do you accept my offer?
In the comments someone compared what this would have yielded for the last 10 years or so:
1996 – Erik Rasmussen – Geoff Peters, Dmitri Subkotin, Mike Martone, Andreas Dackell, Eion McIrney, Andrej Podkicky
1997 – Paul Mara – Wes Jarvis, Petr Sykora, Jame Pollock, Mike Yorkm Kris Knoblauch, Jeremy Syvington
1998 – Manny Malhotra – Justin Papineau, Alexei Volkon, Krys Barch, David Jonsson, Johnathan Pelletier, Joel Scherban
1999 – Kris Beech – Dmitri Levinski, Frantisek Kaberle, Rail Rozakov, Dustin Jamieson, Corey Pecker, Vadim Tarasov
2000 – Lars Jonsson – Jaret Stoll, Mike Rupp, Scott Balen, Dmitry Upper, Nolan Schaeffer, David Ballantyne
2001 – Mike Komisarek – Mike Zigomanis, Oliver Setzinger, Christian Erhoff, Bill Thompson, Andy Chiodo, Charlie Hopkins
2002 – Joffrey Lupul – David Leneveu, Michael Tessier, Ivan Koltzer, Andy Sertich, Tyler Weiman, Michael Vurion
2003 – Ryan Suter – Dan Fritsche, Richard Stahlik, Jan Hejda, Mike Vannelli, Sergei Grimayev, Elian Graneth
2004 – Rotislav Olesz – Adam Pirreault, Scott Lehman, Chain Painchaud, Nikita Nikilin, Peter Guggisberg, Petri Kontiola
That’s the #7 pick. Essentially the same bounty for the #2 & #11? Ummm… no

I think I’d take the #7. interesting stuff there tough, some years the quantity did better — 97 for sure, 00 too, maybe 01.

Wrong Petr Sykora… the crappy one in ’97.
Other than ‘97 (which I think you’re basing on the faulty Sykora) I agree with you. ’00 for sure and maybe ’01

I think you always keep the 7th, after all, after the 3rd or 4th round it’s a losing bet—didn’t you do a ‘value of a 4th round pick for Winnik way back when?’
Available for a 3rd round pick.

yeah, and I did a value of a draft pick. Really, anything outside the 2nd round is a losing bet, and a 2nd isn’t all that great either.

Not that their can’t be good picks in the 2nd round (Shea Weber & Paul Stastny were 2nd rounders), but the chances of getting a nobody far outweigh the chances of getting an NHL player.

to be clear, only the 46, 76 would be of any value, looking at that list only Erhoff, Hedja and Dackell add any value after the first two picks (as NHL’ers). So stastically you’d be kinda fucked for taking that deal.
Available for a 3rd round pick.
