Semyon Varlamov's first press conference

63

His English isn't as bad as people have said. In fact, it's pretty darn good - good enough to understand clearly when he admitted that his dream as a kid was to play for the Avs and that his idol was, of course, Patrick Roy. Like Matt Duchene was when he got the call from Joe Sakic after being drafted, as well as Gabriel Landeskog with Peter Forsberg, Varlamov is anxious and full of smiles at the idea of talking with Roy. I think much of this recent trend of getting players who grew up starry-eyed for the Burgundy and Blue has to do with the success the team enjoyed in the formative years' of these young players' lives. Regardless, it's pretty damn cool the Avs are stacking the roster with players who have always wanted to wear the A. Worn with pride indeed.
