Rank Your Avalanche Players, Best to Worst
Ok, I thought this might be kind of fun, Every day I'll start a poll with all of the avalanche players, we'll eliminate the best players currently on the team or IR and after 20 something odd days we'll a fan's depth chart of the organ-i-zation.
So what is best? For the purposes of this poll, let's just say it includes overall game, not just stats and let's go with the overall player and not just this season. But when it comes down to a tie, what they are doing this year should be the tie breaker.

I see vtcapsfan has voted.
A man who stole my whisky used the defense that no one could resist a bottle of Scotch. I had no choice but to testify on his behalf.
the JS Gigure vote?

I just found this poll today and voted O’Reilly. Shocking I know. I was thinking Duchene after O’Reilly. Varly has been too inconsistent this season for me in good conscience to rank him #1. Now if the poll question was who is the most talented player I might could justify ranking him #1, although I’d have to think about Duchene for a while. But who is the cutest player, yes Varly wins that one easily:) Landy a close second there.

I wanted to make it interesting so I put in those guidelines. So if you couldn’t decide between Duchene and O’Reilly, then there’s your tiebreaker.

Also, I agree with you but that’s also a statement to how bad Duchene and Stastny are playing this year that he is head and shoulders above them. It’s almost always never good when your leading scorer is on pace for 55 points.

From my expectation of play
Most of these guys have not met my expectation in points but I think their play has been solid, just nothing is going in for the team, so it seems.
A: Giguere, O’Reilly, Wilson, Quincey,
B: O’Brien, Galiardi, Winnik, Landeskog, Van Der Gulik, Elliot
B-: Johnson, Stastny, Duchene,
C: McClement, O’Byrne, Varley, Hejduk, Malone,
C-: Kobasew, Hejda, Brophy, Hunwick,
D: Porter,
F: McLoed, Yip, Jones (this might be harsh because he started out hot), Mueller (just cant get healthy)
I actually did a full writeup for Midseason Grades
I have a paragraph for all the players too, so if you have a question on why I ranked them that way, just ask. I won’t post all of the blurbs though since it took up 3 pages in Word. And yes, I gave mostly B’s because to be entirely honest, I’d give the overall team a B right now based on my expectation of them coming into the year. If you’ve been what was expected, you got a B (or if you’ve had A moments and F moments – aka Varly and EJ). Other than that, I’ve graded on expectations, adversity, and accomplishments/overall effectiveness of play. For example, Matt Duchene hasn’t lived up to my expectations, so I would give him a B- in that category, but he’s been in some really weird situations (4th line, winger/center, few consistent wingmates except for a mostly invisible Stastny) and was leading the team in goals at the time of his injury. Those other categories combine to bring his grade up to a B+.
A+ : O’Reilly
A : Giguere, Wilson
A- : Quincey, Winnik, Elliott, Landeskog
B+ : O’Brien, Van Der Gulik, Duchene, McClement, Hejduk, Galiardi
B : Varlamov, O’Byrne, Johnson, Hejda, Porter, Stastny, Malone, McLeod
B- : Kobasew, Jones
C+ : Hunwick

I guess you could say I’m grading on a curve. We’re the youngest team in the league with one of the lowest salaries, and we’ve managed to jump from 29th overall last year to 17th today and fighting for a playoff spot. And it’s not like there’s one person carrying us – our leading scorer just broke the 30pt mark last game – so it’s really been a team effort. That’s a huge accomplishment as a group, so I don’t feel too bad about giving out a lot of B’s.

I wished my stats teacher would have had the same logic. I messed up my scatterplot on the Final ended up with a 90%, but failed the class because she in “good conscience” could not pass me if I could not get a scatterplot done right.

I can’t close the poll (I get a ‘you don’t have permission’ screen), can one of you magical admins do that and save it for posterity?
