How long does it take to become an ice skater?
I can balance on my legs, somewhat, poorly I might add… but how long does it take from standing comfortably and being able to skate around and shoot a puck and not look completely out of place?

Probably based very much on your ability to learn and the consistency with which you go practice.
I’ve probably gone skating less than a dozen times. I don’t look out of place until the moment I try to stop.
I hope to cure myself of this inability to skate. It’s just disappointing to be a Canadian who cannot skate.
I’m the same way. I played street hockey for 15 years, and then put on skates and to me, it was a little different but I picked it up right away. I really want to get some stick and puck though, that will feel weird.

It really is the stopping that’s the hardest. I’d been on skates once in my life (when I was 8) and took a hockey skills class. I had roller skating and roller blading experience, so that probably helped, but I did totally fine with the skating – both forwards and backwards. But it was the stopping that sucked. Took a while to get that.
I still am terrible at carrying the puck and shooting on net. Hence, I subscribe to the Adam Foote school of hockey. Don’t go in my crease, don’t fuck with my goalie, don’t even think you’re winning that battle in corner. I’m actually pretty strong on my skates now. Again, took a while.

I never understood the idea of stopping. I get the physics. I can’t apply the physics. I typically end up either leaning too hard and just falling backwards or not leaning far enough, catching an edge, and toppling onto my face and waif-like wrists.
It’s frustrating when my survival instinct prevents me from doing the things I want to do.

It’s a combination of those. My body says that when you consider the speed of travel and the hardness of the ice, there is no justifiable reason why I should be trying to learn how to stop. There’s a soft snowbank in the corner which will do the same thing without the broken (waif-like) wrists and multitude of bruises.

I hear ya. One of the things that helped me learn a hockey stop was lifting the front foot. Hard to explain, so I don’t expect it to help. So I guess I should just shut up, eh? haha

I’ve got my 16 y.o right wing going through his CHL season first. I’m playing in the WHL, have 50 goals and 36 assists. My goals were 34 goals and 40 assists lol. Almost there! Have some games left though so we’ll see. I’m projected to be a 2nd round pick which is fine with me.

There’s some teams that are super frustrating to play against. I play for the Blades (gotta play with Siemens and Thrower). Although I rack up penalty minutes like there is no tomorrow. I think on average through 60 games I’ve gotten in a fight per game lol. Sometimes 2.

I rack up the shots too. Earlier in the season I was selfish as shit, never passing, would rack up like 10-14 shots per game. I finally started passing and being more of a team player, helped out quite a bit. I get put out on the PK a lot, and have been the setup guy for a couple of shorties. Love feeding one timers to the team too.

I feel like I should be picking this game up. CoD has been causing veins to poke out of my skull in places that I was unaware a vein existed.
BF3 Multiplayer is sooooo much better than CoD. CoD had the better single player I think though.

It’s actually perfect for Caspian. I’m not a fan of the super large maps cus it turns into a vehicle whore fest and infantry just ends up getting boned a lot. 32 players on Seine Crossing, Metro, and Bazaar is a lot of fun though.

I like it here, would like it more if it weren’t for the military. Being forced to live on base in a dorm with pretty strict rules is a huge slap in the face. I hate that the Air Force doesn’t let us act like adults until we’re in trouble. Until then we’re all just dumb kids regardless of our actual age. I’m nearly 30 and I can’t even have a friend in my room to play videogames or watch tv shows between the hours of midnight-6am. I miss living on my own, I miss home that’s for sure. I also miss having a dog.

Eh I’m just an aircraft mechanic. It’s a job and I’m thankful for that. For the most part I like what I do. I work with a lot of good people. I look back on my life and the path I’ve taken, and really, I am glad for what I did. I couldn’t be one of the pretty people that constantly fly desks that’s for sure. Mechanics are just a different breed I guess. I’m happy to serve though, it’s not bad. It’s not great either, but there are far worse things in life.

if Chara went out there with his size looking to crush people and hit like Wilson does, there would be a lot more Pacioretty’s out there, Chara uses his body as an obstacle with forwards, he pushes and leans on guys so that he takes them out of the play physically without risking his own positioning by unloading a big hit, even this hit was him riding the guy into the boards

I could be wrong i guess, but it seems to me like few guys in the league regardless of size can hit the way Wilson does, it’s not smooth skating the way Johnson does, its explosive side steps and an incredible sense of timing. Every time Hejda tries to make that kind of hit he misses his guy and ends up out of position

I just told you guys, he’s a homo, everyone in the league knows it. He’s soft. Has he ever fought once? ROB tries to hit guys but he can skate like Johnson which is his strength and why he went no 1 overall. He can skate well enough to line guys up. I would just like to say that seeing the unity and immediate response against homophobic slurs on here (I’ve seen it twice in two nights now) is very heartwarming for me.
It gives me hope that homophobia may be effectively exterminated sometime in my life.
It may never be exterminated, but it is definitely more socially acceptable now. I’m more than glad to warm your heart.

I don’t realistically expect it to be eradicated entirely… there will always be an irrational fear of that which is different. Every step towards social equality is a good step, though.
I figure, while I am White, Male and heteronormative I have all this privilege, might as well use it for good.

i dont know how to say this differently its not his game. He is positional, contact he initiates is about riding guys off into the boards or guiding them out of a lane he’s protecting. Its a very different skillset from Wilson exploding shoulder first into someone’s chest
