Ok since I’m laying around the house today I guess I’ll watch the All Star skills competition and cheer for Landy and Wideman. Not really sure why Wideman was picked for the hardest shot competition. Hopefully he at least doesn’t embarrass himself compared to Chara.
In other news, the new team Russian national coach, call him Coach Bill (his English nickname) because his name is long and hard to spell, has been traveling around the US/Canada scouting all the Russian NHL players. He didn’t get to see Varly play but he is coming back in February and might see Varly then. Some translated excerpts from Alex Ovetjkin blog:
Zinetula Bilyaletdinov spent the first half of January in North America. The head coach of team Russia was in Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa. He crossed the Canadian border and went to Detroit, New York, Chicago….The interview is very long and they discuss virtually every Russian NHLer. It was interesting to read about Flyers’ Bryzgalov and Bobrovsky and why Bryz still can’t play to his potential. Bilyaletdinov notes that he would change some things in Flyers defensive system, but it’s not up to him.
TJ translated all the parts on the Caps Russian players, including their prospect in the KHL Kuznetsov. Here’s the part on Semin for those of you interested in the upcoming UFA:
Compared to the last season Semin got twice as less points.
But he is still the master. He knows how to play with the puck and without it. He can skate around you and score the goal.
Semin was shining when he played with Sergei Fedorov. Is he too dependable?
Every hockey player would like to play with a good partner. Yes, a professional should go out and play with anyone put on his line. But put Semin with Datsyuk or Malkin and his stats will double. It’s a simple math, the amount of skill will increase.
The article mentions practically every Russian NHL player, if you are interested here is the google translate link:

Just a brief part was about Varly (sorry it’s google translate):
Your opinion about Semyon Varlamov goalkeeper?
Unfortunately, it did not see. As with Loktionov, Voynov of the Los Angeles. Maybe look in February. Well, that Semyon has a lot of Colorado – though not always successfully. But who does not happen?
I have to say I just came here to post this. I am going to be honest and say it wouldn’t have been anywhere near this thorough
DDC is deeply embedded throughout this blog. For better or worse, his taint taints us all.

That’s why you pay me the big bucks.

So Landeskog is competing in one event the entire weekend? That’s incredibly lame.

Well a rookie from each team has to be represented I thought.
The reason I'm in town, in case you're wondering, is because of a Kansas City Shuffle.
He’s taking part in the “you’re not good enough to be in any event, so we’re going to stick you in the same spot we stuck Stastny last year….”
Paul Stastny did, what Paul Stastny does. Score big goals.
Stastny fed guys for the accuracy competition too. Every pass was perfect. :3
At exactly what point do you start to realize that life without knowledge is death in disguise?
That was my feeling, they’re putting him in, if I’m not mistaken, the shortest event. It really sucks not having someone like Duchene there.

Duchene = Breakaway competition.
That’s really the only one I see him in…. or fastest skater like last year.
Paul Stastny did, what Paul Stastny does. Score big goals.
He could do fastest skater and breakaway, plus hed play in the actual game and would have been in the draft.

I can’t help but not hate Elliott… I respect the dude… tough tough year, happy he’s having success.
PS. I don’t give a fuck what people say, fuck Anderson.
Paul Stastny did, what Paul Stastny does. Score big goals.
Jimmy Howard’s attached a jet to his head…

Yikes the guys passing didn’t do Seguin any favors.

At exactly what point do you start to realize that life without knowledge is death in disguise?
I don't care how fast Sedin did it last year
Seriously

It’s a wonder Hughson doesn’t choke from all those Canucks dicks in his mouth eh?

I rarely can understand him. Balls make an excellent muffler

At exactly what point do you start to realize that life without knowledge is death in disguise?
The scary thing is Chara doesn’t even skate in as fast as the other guys….

What if he had a stick with more flex… would it come off faster?
Paul Stastny did, what Paul Stastny does. Score big goals.
I think he uses that stick because his size and strength would break bendier ones eh?
At exactly what point do you start to realize that life without knowledge is death in disguise?
I wonder if he gets an advantage. After all, you figure his stick works more like a pole vaulter’s pole as it launches the puck.

Less flex for him would be less speed
by UTBroncofan on Jan 28, 2012 7:15 PM MST via mobile up reply actions
Not necessarily. As people are comparing this to pole vault, you can have too much flex. Pole vaulter call it “mushing” the pole. You get too much flex and you won’t go anywhere. So you have to find a pole with a heavy enough flex that you can bend it, and then ride out the torque as it launches you (of course you also have to be in the right position). To light a pole and you mush it, too heavy and you either can’t bend it enough to use the flex, or you can’t control the flex.
Datsyuk may have done it first, but he learned it from Peter Forsberg.
Thanks for everything Foppa!

It also has to do with stiffness

There’s no way the cheaters in the KHL can beat Chara under the same rules
by UTBroncofan on Jan 28, 2012 7:14 PM MST via mobile reply actions
No way it does…. their shot is closer and the speed is measured coming off the stick, not going into the net.
Paul Stastny did, what Paul Stastny does. Score big goals.
Plus they come from the red line

They should just let everyone participate in the last event

The sad thing…. Chara doesn’t unload that beast in games….
He’s afraid of hitting his teammates or injuring someone… but if I’m in the playoffs, finals, looking at Luongo, I wire that shit as hard as I can.
Paul Stastny did, what Paul Stastny does. Score big goals.
Alright… any way Landeskog can somehow survive this shootout thing? LOL
Paul Stastny did, what Paul Stastny does. Score big goals.
I thought everyone was
At exactly what point do you start to realize that life without knowledge is death in disguise?
I wish everyone was, but above they have players listed and Landeskog isn’t on it

They add the scores from this to the game. Chara can win with super defense
Paul Stastny did, what Paul Stastny does. Score big goals.
they do?
that’s kinda dumb… more reasons not to bother with the game at all
At exactly what point do you start to realize that life without knowledge is death in disguise?
Well that was lame, Team Chara went down quick
