i voted mediocre – because of playoffs

we got there once, but didnt do anything. good coaches do something in the playoffs, bad coaches dont get there.

i thought we responded well to a stacked SJS team for 3 games. Should have gone up 2-0 in the series with a few bounces. Its pretty fucking rare for am 8 seed to beat a 1 and despite missing some key players at times I thought sacco handled us and San Jose pretty well

I voted mediocre because we really won’t know until he has more to work with.

I put Good

because I felt mediocre wasn’t good enough. He has completely changed how this team has played from the past two years and has kept a team full of underperforming “star” players still in the playoff hunt while having a goaltending controversy.

I voted mediocre partially because that’s how I feel about him, but mostly because I wanted to support the inevitable middle finger poll results.

Forever grateful that Joe Sakic isn't a raging dick hole like Brett Favre.

Agree across the board

1. Questionable lineup/benching decisions

Fair point. It seems to have varying affect and I wonder if over time it is a good thing.

2. Doesn’t get the most out of his star players (Is it coaching, or are they not really stars… this kinda goes hand in hand with number 3 in his pros)

Hard to say. He has turned Factor, Wilson, Gali, and other into legit players. Not to mention better production out of Mueller and Johnson.

3. Horrific record within the division… In fact, his style has been much more successful vs. the East than it has the West.

True. That needs to fix itself ASAP if he wants to keep his job.

4. Too many lackluster efforts in big games

I wonder how much control he has over this, but it is the coaches job to do his best to get teams ready.

2, 3 and 4 are my reasons for why he is mediocre. I don’t think he will ever get us to the stanley cup finals, but at least I don’t think we will ever get the first pick in the draft.

I would counter that Factor’s work ethic is why he is enjoying success. But yeah, there are some nice stories in the lineup such as Wilson, Gali (sometimes), and Mueller. Stastny’s game is a huge concern right now. Duchene has all of the game in the world, but doesn’t seem to have great direction for how to use it consistently yet. Not sure if I would say he has gotten better production out of Johnson though… he seems like the exact same player he was in StL.

Ultimately though coaching is overrated. If you have talented players who want to win, they should be able to find a way to get the fucking job done regardless of who’s behind the bench, eh. Pardon my French-Canadian…

I doubt he “turned” Radar into what he is now… I don’t know what goes in that locker room but I think it’s Ryan’s work ethic more than anything else.

Paul Stastny did, what Paul Stastny does. Score big goals.

Good

The team has overperformed with the “talent” he’s had available to him. Doesn’t play favorites, willing to call out any player who’s not performing. Has adjusted the team’s style of play based on the “talent” available.

I’ve got no idea how he’d do with a stacked team, like the Hawks or the Canucks, but he’s exceeded my (and most other people’s) expectations in 2 of his 3 seasons as head coach, and met them in the other season.

Good

I know I’m on record as saying Joe Sacco isn’t the guy for this job, but that came after losing 30 of 35 or whatever god-awful number that was. Seriously, no respectable franchise should ever have that record, much less allow the people behind it to keep their jobs. But that includes many more people than just Sacco.

Since then I have come to the realization that this team fucking sucks. Added fornication emphasis is apparently needed. There is enough talent on this team to make up an awesome AHL team. We cram our lineup with kids who aren’t ready. We make career AHLers into 12-15 minute per game NHLers. We recycle other team’s garbage and expect them to have career years. And we don’t have a lick of support from the ownership to make things better. We have a cap floor team and exactly two players are earning their paycheck. Both Republican and Democratic parties combined haven’t had to polish as many turds as Joe Sacco.

The fact that Joe Sacco has this pile of crap within striking distance of a playoff spot is not just a testament to how well he’s done, but possible ammunition to keep him in top five consideration for the Jack Adams award.
To put it in nerdier terms for us guys sitting behind a desk all day and don’t know a damn thing about hockey systems or motivating athletes, Joe Sacco is playing Battlefield 3 on an Atari 2600, and he’s still sitting at a +.500 kill/death ratio. Imagine what he could do with a professional hockey team.

I chose mediocre for the poll, because I don’t know what he’s doing, and I’ve seen ups and downs. If he could make the downs a little shorter and a little higher, I’d say he’s pretty good.

Looks like someone closed the window. The air was getting a bit chilly.

I said mediocre. I actually think he’s doing a pretty good job, but I don’t think he’s the guy that can make up for the glaring weaknesses and lack of depth in this line-up. If there were letter grades to be given, I’d be wavering between a B and a B-.

I do think he has improved substantially over a year ago.

I voted mediocre because the team is mediocre and the responsability has to fall somewhere (besides the administration), but in all hosnesty if there was something between good and mediocre like almost good, I would have voted that.

I can not buy the fact, that the players going on the ice with the attitude that the game is not important, is not part of a coach’s motivation job. Maybe he is a too nice guy, I really don’t know. And he has been terribly unlucky like last year with so many players being hurt or sick, and also with Sherman moves. Must not be easy to know that if the team fails you get no draft picks. Serman put him in a tough position with this one.

Anyway = almost good.
