Avalanche at Oilers, Live Thread

Colorado Avalanche at Edmonton Oilers, Jan 31, 2012 7:30 PM MST

A little grumpy old man inspiration for the Avs tonight, with bonus points for wearing pajamas to a hockey game. Again, this is a must-win game.

its an interesting debate, we have more access, and the ability to direct brain power towards creation and new material rather than memorize existing information…. but we’re relatively dumb without our resources

Cap Floor Team = Cap Floor Results

by Cole D Hamilton on Jan 31, 2012 7:24 PM MST up reply actions

I don’t think that’s fair. At all.

We were given this project in one class (third year)… had to fix a business. But to fix the business you had to do all their numbers (remember accounting background) and then do projections. We were told to use all resources possible.

Well, I remembered the name of the business, quick Google look up told me which textbook I had seen it in. Grabbed that textbook (from first year) … and it was the step-by-step example on how to get every number needed. We were he only group to have all the correct numbers. Actually, we were the only group to have more than half the numbers right (so maybe it does prove your point). The prof asked us how we did it. She laughed and said “Excellent use of materials”.

I mean… I guess. I’m speaking I guess from a more scientific background. 10 years ago? Memorize the periodic table, know how to use a slide rule, memorize table after table of chemical equations. Today its all on your calculator and your expected to learn the mechanics and theory much quicker so that we can move forward more quickly

im not saying we dont remember ANYTHING. But there is definitely less emphasis

I watched games in class. Actually, a prof streamed it onto the white board from my laptop once. It was a game he wanted to watch too. We had no sound. 30 miles west, toward Laramie, Veedauwoo, a nice natural rock formation park. 2.5 hours to Steamboat Springs, best ski area round, imo. If you’re a hunter…pheasant north toward Torrington, Wy., west of Laramie, elk and antelope. The anti Japan…lots of space, wind, I-80, better oxygen, but less of it, and the state’s entire population will be less than the 15 mile radius of Fussa. Or maybe less than the population of the Shibuya crossing at 7pm on any day. Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo…fun event.
Best part, you will now be 98.5 minutes door to door to the Pepsi Center, as
opposed to 98.5 hours(if you could drive across the pacific ocean)! congrats!

Nice! Of course if I wanted to, I could just open up the command console and add any item/armor/whatever I wanted. I actually already did that. Didn’t want to spend hours of play time just to make gold to spend it on crafting, so I gave myself about 4 million gold and 14,000 lockpicks. Also increased my carry weight to 27,000. I find having to fast travel just to sell loot is annoying, so I fixed it haha.

No cheating would be making myself max everything. I just don’t want to spend hours farming up stuff just to craft. I’d rather go craft, knock out some levels, and quest instead of spending hours upon hours making daggers before I do a quest.

by Cole D Hamilton on Jan 31, 2012 8:47 PM MST up reply actions

But in those 30 games, his production is what matters, the others were injuries he couldn’t control. Crosby hasn’t played much, does that mean if his contract were coming up you wouldn’t pay him what he’s worth to the team?

by Randy Time on Jan 31, 2012 8:48 PM MST up reply actions

good point. I just think thats a pretty big raise considering games played. Its a really tough contract to negotiate IMO, I wouldnt be surprised to see him get 2.5 but probably wouldnt be surprised at 3.5 or 4 either

Cap Floor Team = Cap Floor Results

by Cole D Hamilton on Jan 31, 2012 8:52 PM MST up reply actions

I think 3-3.5 is pretty fair but don’t see it higher than that. The injury history is something to take into account though. I don’t think Mueller is going to be asking for a ridiculous amount, but with the new CBA and if the cap limit raises, he’ll get an increase in pay.

The reason I'm in town, in case you're wondering, is because of a Kansas City Shuffle.

There’s no question that he was waiver exempt whilst he remained in North America. My point is that I believe that in order to be released to another league (SEL in this case), he had to be exposed to waivers. This prevents teams from warehousing players in other countries’ leagues without giving the rest of the NHL the chance to pick the players up if they do so.

Same thing with Filatov and Huet when they went to the KHL and Swiss League respectively.

I don’t think that I like the 5 forwards power play.

1. No defenseman to play if there is a turnover.

2. It puts the numbeer 7 and 8 forwards on the #2 PP. If that was a better scorer than Winnik he might have been able to control the puck on that wrap around attempt and score a goal.

Have you watched Tampa Bay play this season? Just curious because they have used 5 forwards on their PP at times as well. I’m sure there are other teams that have done it also. It’s risky because you don’t have a true defender on the ice in case the puck goes the other way, but teams still try it from time to time hoping the rewards out ways the risk.

If Chicago can at least curb stomp Vancouver, I'll be a little happier.

This is just another Avalanch 2nd half. embarassing too little too late efforts.

Final 30 seconds and your lineup is
Winnik 5 goals
Galiardi 8 goals
Kobasew 7 goals
Jones 9 goals (all in the first 10ish games)
Wilson 1 goal
and then OReilly 14 the only one who gives a shit and the only one who looked like it

But, but, but Gali knew that coach was mad and after all, isn’t that really what matters here?

Sick of seeing Paul Stastny’s sorry ass out there. Trade him to Buffalo

At this point we’d be lucky to get Leino in return.

this is the most scathing criticism that I’ve ever heard/seen McNabb give…ever.

Sunnyside is firmly on the ’don’t fire Sacco’ camp. He’s wrong by the way.

The avs are a young team, for most of them, they’ve never seen their bad play get a coach fired. I think they need that sort of ‘real life’ wake up call.

I thought losing 10 in a row twice last year was the wake up call?

nope losing 10 in a row means you get another chance next season. There is no real consequences for this team.

The only guys who ought not be thoroughly shamed by what happened out there tonight:

Ferris
Landy
Radar

Sad part is, they’re likely the only ones to give it a second thought.

Well I only saw the last ten minutes, most of which looked pretty good til about three minutes left. Gotta love it when they have 6 skaters and can’t control the puck at all.

But I did watch the replays (expert here!) of the Eberle and Hall goals. Varly needs to make that save on Eberle and SOMEONE needs to look up and take Hall out of the middle of the slot before he sends home that nice juicy rebound.

I hate that we’re continuing the trend that if the Avs can’t score more than 2 goals, they won’t win.

I understand Gali’s penalty was horrible and he deserved a punishment for it. Where is the beat down for the couple of star players that haven’t performed night in and night out? Eventually you need to call out those guys, at least if they are suppose to be leaders. Duchene has a golden opportunity to step up and lead this team right now.

How was SoS invisible last night exactly? I thought he played really well. Radar’s line too. Dubnyk was the difference maker for the Avs last night, not Galiardi or Stastny, IMO.
