Just re-watched Infernal Affairs.
I can say with pride that I have watched it 5 times as much as The Departed; that is, I’ve never and have no plans to watch the lesser remake. (Yes, DiCaprio and Damon are no equals of Lau and Leung.)

did they just say that because they train at high altitudes playing big minutes on back to back nights (being double shifted tonight) shouldn’t bother orielly?
Well, training at altitude and then dropping to sea level can be advantageous….but in a 60 minute game, I’m sure he’ll feel the effects.

There was a lot of talk that the big hang up in the game’s release was the Korean Ratings Board was giving it trouble and Blizzard had sent over 3 or 4 different builds to be approved and something was causing them to continue turning it away. He said that sometime in the past few weeks, there as a story in the Post with “INCONSISTENCY” as the headline and Varly’s picture next to it. He said that Varly’s not even 24 and has been getting ragged on way more than he should be by the Post.

Nice that someone has Varly’s back. Dater should write a story about how Avs management had too high of expectations for Varly considering he hadn’t exactly proved himself with a full season in the past, and how they don’t provide a full time coach instead of ripping Varly for being young and inconsistent.
Goalie Guild added Varly as evidence when goalies talk negatively to the press, they play badly (Bryzgalov was one of his examples). Big stretch there considering Varly never said anything.

I've never had a problem with Dater's articles
and his blog posts, while on DP’s website, have always just been more of him shooting from the hip. Allows him some freedom from the rigidity of the journalism constructs but I still never feel like he’s going out of his way to start some static. His Twitter is different. He tweets about all kinds of shit and clearly doesn’t mind poking a stick through the fence that is Avs fans.

I agree. He’s still got a ways to go, no doubt, but he’s got the raw talent in buckets. Couple more years (and hopefully a goalie coach), and we’ll have an unreal goalie on our hands.

I think it’s a little too simple to say Varly wasn’t happy with the Caps because he wanted to be the number one. The injuries (and potentially the medical staff) and Boudreau’s style of goalie management were some other causes as well.
I think it’s great that Varly gets to work with Giggy and learn from him. Goalie Guild was pointing out stuff that he thought Varly had learned from Giggy already.

I just hope the Avs lack of a full time coach for him doesn’t slow down his development too much. I’m sure he’ll be working hard in the off-season with Parkkila to come back and have a better year next season.
Vokoun has settled in and has been performing extremely well lately. I like him alright but he’s no Varly:(

Much about the Caps has been bizarre this season. If they don’t make the playoffs, I think McPhee should be fired and maybe Hunter too. He screwed up and should have fired Boudreau after the Tampa series loss, possibly after the Montreal series loss. For a team maxed out to beyond the cap (LTIR being used), it’s ridiculous if they don’t make the playoffs considering the talent they do have (although they are no longer as talented as they used to be).
I don’t even look at the money they spend. I look at Semin, Backstrom, OV, Laich, Carlson, Green, Vokoun and think the caps are a shoe-in. I love how Perreault has been play though, real happy to see him finally get some NHL time, he has hands that are softer than clouds.

Hunter is like death to offensive hockey. Look at Caps shots per game with Boudreau and with Hunter. He still has a lot to figure out. Maybe he will, maybe he won’t, but to make the jump from OHL to NHL is a big one. His London Knights teams were always stacked with great players, easy to win that way.
Hunter has done some stuff well, he had helped the defense improve, and the players seem to respect how far and open he is with them, and his teaching, also his calm manor (Boudreau was too much the opposite).

Not really, I mean if you really watch the Caps, they are no longer the firewagon crazy offensive team they were for a couple years under Boudreau. The past couple season they’ve had trouble scoring. Semin and Ovi have declined, as has Knuble. Backstrom is good but he is broken now, they have no 2C (Johansson isn’t the best fit there, two green). Laich is a good 3C/utility player. Green has been broken for two seasons, although he’d be decent if he could play. They do have a good defensive core but the forwards are not all the exciting after Ovi, Semin (when he’s good Sasha and not bad Sasha) and Backstrom. It probably seems like I’m complaining to you because overall the Caps forwards are probably more talented than the Avs, but it’s a steep drop off after the top guys. I do like Brouwer but he’s more complimentary.

Yes, I’m not arguing with you, just commenting on Rycroft. Since Varly refused to speak about his reasons I don’t think it’s quite fair for people to assume they know exactly how it was. Not that Rycroft was being that unfair to him. Probably the existence of Neuvy and Holtby was a major reason, but I don’t think he ever got over not being given a chance in the playoffs.
I'm out. Had fun on the only game of the week I get to watch fully, even though the Avs lost.

Our legs were pretty well gone by the 3rd. Don’t let Dater fool you – Varly was terrific and stole us the point single handedly. SOB and EJ got goals and we were pretty severely outplayed.
Still, not as bad as it could have been. We got a point at least.
