Wouldya?
Imagine your the GM our our beloved Avalanche. Remember all those awesome days in accounting school? Ahhh, good times. Actuaries can suck it. But now to the real question:
Would you trade any ONE OF Matt Duchene, Ryan Q`Reilly, or Gabriel Landeskog to Columbus as part of a deal for Rick Nash? It's not important what else would be involved as we assume it would include picks (pretend we have decent ones) and prospects, but the lynchpin of the deal would be young NHL talent. I think we can all agree that those three guys fit that bill.
So, wouldya?

I love Matt Duchene, for sure, whole ton of talent, but I would take a more developed Rick Nash over him. I would prefer to keep O’Reilly and Landy, it’s so hard to find guys with the kind of “leave it all on the ice” heart that those guys have, guys that just hate to lose so badly and compete so hard.
I had to vote f*ck no. Maybe I’m just in a bad mood today. Nope, I’m in a seriously bad mood. These guys are the core of our up and coming team. Why break that up for an “easy” fix to a short term problem in Nash?
Yeah...... I got nothin'
I don’t see the lack of competent wingers as a short term problem, seeing as we have ZERO in the system.
If we don't get our sauce, we ain't watching the game!
In a contract vacuum, I’d trade Landeskog for Nash. But it’s not. Nash’s contract is xboxlol sized, and that’s that.
I’d still take Nash for a package of lesser guys. Quincey, Barrie, Mueller, and so on.
Yeah, but the BJ’s won’t. Therein lies the issue.
If we don't get our sauce, we ain't watching the game!
watch them trade him for cheap...
then we can all shake our heads. Who knows what a nearly 8 mill cap hit will do to a trade value with a new cba coming up
Languishing for Landeskog
yes
ditto O’Reilly & maybe Duchene tbh
Maybe

No thank you
I like the future of this team! No way would I trade any of our future stars.

In light of the overall lack of forward depth on this team, I view any package that gives one of those guys up as lateral or slightly better than lateral at best. It’s not that I wouldn’t like to see Nash (or Parise) in a unipron, it’s that I view them as complementary pieces and if the Avs give up serious forward talent to gain serious forward talent it’s a wash imo.

I hate trades for players from losing teams. He has had ample opportunity in Columbus and hasn’t produced the results. I have no reason to believe it would be any different on the Avs. If we’re trading away one of our young stars, we better be getting a veteran with championship experience back in return.

Ample opportunity? In Columbus?
We made as well say the same about Duchene.
I don’t see how one can pin the BJs being second-last in GA/G on a winger.

How about Lucic? He has more pts. than Nash right now (41 vs. 39) and has a ring. For the same group of players, would you rather have Lucic and his championship experience over Nash?

Nash has a Gold Medal
it might not be Cup experience, but it is a Hell of a Championship.

You're f*!&ing crazy if you think I'd part with one of those guys for Rick Nash.
The main reason is Nash’s 7.8M cap hit. If he was 6M I would probably think about it. The winger I would trade O’Reilly for is Bobby Ryan. His cap hit is extremely friendly at 5.1M for a guy of his caliber.
While I would do that.. ONLY right after we sign Parise. haha With that cap hit we could afford to have..
Parise – Stastny – Ryan
Semin – Duchene – Mueller
Oh yeah.. in the off season if we got Parise.. I would totally do it.
If you got Ryan and Parise, why sign a floater like Semin? Just put Landy in his place.
If we don't get our sauce, we ain't watching the game!
I’d be more inclined to see Semin-Duchene-Landy…… yeah Semin’s a floater, but so many of the best snipers are. With the playmaker in the middle, and Landy’s effort more than making up for whatever Semin lacks, I’d be game for that combo. Plus, as much as I hate to say it, I don’t see a bright future for Mueller.
No bright future for Mueller? Based on his injury history? Because he seems to be a major contributor when he’s on the ice.
Yeah...... I got nothin'
absolutely he’s been a contributor…. I’d love nothing more than to see him stay healthy and have great success. The pessimist in me doesn’t see him staying healthy for long, unfortunately.
me too! I like what I’ve seen from Mueller in terms of protecting his head, he seems VERY cognizant of situations where he’s vulnerable. But then again, all it takes is one bad shot and he’s out again. And given the history, it doesn’t even have to be a huge hit that ends it for him.
Given all that, the Avs have to have plans for “after Mueller”, and if that entails an upgrade (in my opinion) to a guy like Semin, then they have to do it.
Yeah I would agree with that.. Landeskog would fit on that line as well “IF” Mueller continues to have problems with injury. Honestly the “size and skill” combination of those two lines makes me worry less about having a amazing 3rd line. Stastny’s line would be extremely good defensively. An absolute nightmare for teams. If they are not shutting down your top line they would be scoring on you and probably often doing both.
Semin – Duchene – Mueller, is a lot more skill but still has some size to it. Semin is not physical but he is not a small guy either @ 6’2" 209. Mueller is 6’2" 204.. I actually think that with a chance to do some conditioning during the off season Mueller will regain some speed and durability. When confident even this season he has shown that he will throw the body at the right times as well. Would love it if he got healthy and continued to have a bit of a power forward edge to his game.
Landeskog would be the obvious choice to fill in for injuries in the top 6. Sign Mueller for 3 years.. When Landeskog’s contract is up if Mueller has stayed fairly healthy you can make a decision as to what to do then and trade Mueller if necessary. He would have one year left on his contract at probably a good cap hit. That means value..
This possible scenario is one of the only ways I would even consider trading one of our centers though. Otherwise.. Just sign wingers and keep the depth down the middle.
The Avs need a star winger to complement Duchene. The BJs need Duchene to part with Nash. I see a problem here.

no
I cant move one of these three guys. Just the thought of dealing one of them is a flashback to draft day 94. New quebec gm Pierre Lacroix decided to move one of his big 3 because of an incoming rookie named Peter Forsberg. The Sakic, Nolan, Sundin trio was forever broken when he dealt #13 for an over the hill Wendel Clark. While it also brought in Sly and Claude a year later, watching Sundin perform over the next decade was a bitter pill to swallow. Not saying Nash is over the hill, just dont want history to repeat itself.

Actually, what you write here says to me going for a super star type is exactly what you want to do. In essence, you are writing that the Avalanche went with Peter Forsberg instead of Mats Sundin, to give us a top 2 super star punch of Sakic and Forsberg. I’m not sure what the trio part is about, but we had Nolan, and surplus of forwards when the Avs first came to Denver. He was traded for a great puck moving offensive defenseman in Sandis Ozolinsch. Lefevbre was a solid defenseman and Clark was traded for Claude Lemieux. Later, Patrick Roy was added. What an excellent job of assembling a Stanley Cup winning team.

trade
My point is they traded a hall of famer for an aging player and sly. I loved sly but guys like him fell off trees at the time. My trio point in case you didn t read the posting, was that was our main trio at the time. There were whispers back in the day that Sundin and Forsberg, together may have not a been a good fit. Always remember too, the cups came because of St Patrick. We would still be paradeless if he never came.

The dealing away of Sundin opened the door to winning the cup. While getting Patrick Roy was a necessity and huge part of winning the cup, I also believe giving Peter Forsberg Mats Sundin’s ice time was a good move, and the trades of Sundin and Nolan helped the Avs assemble a team that won. I’m not saying they did not trade away a great player in Sundin, and might not have gotten great straight up value, but it certainly was not a regrettable trade, and your reasoning that you don’t want Nash because of history repeating itself was wrong, to me, because the trade of Sundin was one of the moves that led to the Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup.

I’m still scarred by the Stewie trade. Please, no more building from within by trading top picks and prospects.
Emotion aside, it would be awesome to have Nash.

I wouldn’t trade O’Reilly. The rest I would consider trading for Nash. We have zero wingers in our system. Nash isn’t old.

This whole RIck Nash Trade Speculation!!!!! thing has done little more than open the world’s eyes to his numbers being pretty darn meh.

On a consistently horrible team, his numbers look pretty damn good (let alone with really no talent around him).
