Great Article this morning about the Avs by Frei

About the 'small market' mentality of the avs these days.
So that got me courious, and I went to cap geek and looked at all the expiring contracts:
Player: Makes (cap hit): Expected contract (cap hit):
Duchene, 3.2m 5.5m
O'Reilly 9k 3-4m
Hejduk 3m 3m
McClemment 1.45 ?
Downie 1.85 2-2.5m
Mcleod 1.033 ?
Porter 850k 1m
Galaradi 700k 1m
Van der Gulik 525k ?
Johnson 2.6m 4-4.5m
Jones 2.5m ?
Winnik 950k ?
Mueller 2m 2m
Hunwick 1.5m ?
Wilson 1.275m 3m
O'Brien 1.1m ?
So what's the point of this list? If you look closely, the expected raises are just about equal to the unrestricted free agents salaries, and there will be little to no change at the overall salaries, Colorado Avalanche 2012-13, you've seen this before.

I thought the article was pointless. Bitch right after this past summer, or bitch after the next summer if we don’t spend money. No use bitching about not spending money 2/3s of the way through the season.

Counterpoint: If 2/3rds of the way through the season it is becoming apparent that your team’s cheap ass ways are leading to another fairly abysmal season, why wouldn’t it be a good time to bitch?

And I’m predicting continued cheapness above.

PS: I did email you the spreadsheets I cooked up. They were for last season, points versus payroll. Very strong correlation between the two. And actually, the Avs were a little bit more effective in points per payroll than other teams, just spent so much less than others that they couldn’t compete.
