I just checked the NHL rule book, and on page 34, sub section 5.1, paragraph B, written in pencil, “NHL players are no longer allowed to physically touch a Vancouver Canuck. Also not allowed, naughty words, ill thoughts, and unpleasant eye contact.” So, in other words, the refs got it right.

You need someone with leadership qualities. Experienced players tend to make better leaders, but experience does not equal leadership. Some of the greatest leaders (business, government, etc…) have been youth. It’s not been tried often in sports before.

When I played, I liked to shoot at two areas on the goalie, the head and the nuts. Both will produce just the slightest amount of fear in young goalies.

Many school districts block Youtube, but there is a teachers edition that can be show. If this video qualifies, then you should be OK. It’s fairly new, at least in my school district so I haven’t had much chance to search it…..

I thought about writing a post for it, but I’ll just say it here: Words like “fluky” and “lucky bounce” and “deserved to win” get thrown around too liberally. Like I said before, only in the anomalies where a ref screws up terribly can one argue. Otherwise? The team that deserves to win deserves to win. Did the Avs get an insurance goal? Nope. Did Vancouver score before the end of 60 minutes? — when they scored is not even important — Yes.

Sorry, I strongly disagree
There’s an insane amount of flukiness in all of hockey, and there always has been. Lucky bounces off the boards, players, bad ice, etc… all lead to “random” goals. Refs missing big calls? Try the little calls? Refs make 8-10 calls per game, probably half are clear-cut penalties. I’d guess 3-5 clear-cut penalties are missed, and then there’s another 20-30 quasi-penalties that may or may not get called. Who knows which way the ref sees it one day or another.
It’s off-topic, because I agree, the Avs couldn’t cash in when they needed to. But you can’t say that hockey isn’t full of flukes! It’s far too fast-paced of a game to not be.
If flukiness is such a huge part of the game then why even complain when fluky plays happen? We should expect those kinds of plays and we should take it as it is, because the only thing the standings will ever take it as is a W or L. I agree there’s a lot of crazy bounces, but I don’t find it necessary to revel, or sulk, in them

I neither rebel nor sulk. I’m seriously fascinated by how they play a part of a game. My original point which brought up the discussion (way up there ^) was that Vancouver has had three lucky bounces lead to tying goals in three straight games (technically, two bounces, one non-call).
Haha. Trust me, I know enough Nucks fans to tell you that he’s not. All things random regress to the mean, but they did help Vancouver achieve 5 more points than (maybe) they should have.
Anything random can be reasonably expected to have streaks in it, tbh

when they are 10 straight losses see if you feel the same way. If they don’t beat Canes (which I do not think they will), this is a 1o game losing streak.

I didn’t say this streak was random, just that the existence of streaks doesn’t mean it isn’t random. This streak is a great big highligher imo on the Avs total lack of scorers.

Was the environment at MHH this toxic last February?… Everybody seems to be at one another’s throats.
i was mostly a reader, not a poster last february.. . but i dont remember it being full of this many arguments.
2 reasons, Avs were ust awful last year at this time, all could agree.
this year, there are voice of reason peeps like me who say logical things, FIRE SACCO NOW< get a new owner, etc. and peeps who think we are doing just fine even tho we suck

Except reasonable people know that Sacco isn’t going anywhere for at least another 28 games and having people continue to complain about it every other post get irritating. It’s fine if you feel that way, but also realize that some of us may not be happy with some of the things Sacco does, but we also realize he isn’t leaving this season and all the complaining int he world isn’t going to change that.
Things aren’t fine, but the world is not ending either…there’s just some things you can’t control and complaining every other post doesn’t change that.
Plus, as some one who has coached sports at the high school and collegiate levels, and some one who has competed as a professional athlete, I find some of your views on coaches to be flat out wrong.

ok, lose 100 straight games but it isn’t the coaches fault b/c he’s a nice guy, that’s it. My only “view” on sacco is he sucks and we continue to lose. When would you fire him, what would it take. I’m a winner and I demand a winner, not this bs of we tried, blah , blah, I don’t give a fuck about excuses.

So as an athlete, every time you screwed up in a game it was your coaches fault? You as an athlete never blamed your self for screwing up, it’s all your coaches fault?
I coached girls basket ball two straight years (I’ll admit, I am not a basketball coach, but the school needed someone). One year we went 12-3, the next year we lost every game. My coaching tactics didn’t change all that much, the athletes did. Not that I could change the system much, because I was coaching the “B” team and the Varsity coach wanted us to use the same system through out the school.

Last season was depressing because the team was clearly decimated and outmatched most of the time.
This season is infuriating because they’re often so fkn close.
