Here at Mile High Hockey, we sometimes post insightful, in-depth and thought-provoking articles about your Colorado Avalanche. This isn't one of those. This post pretty much exists just to celebrate the awesome play of Semyon Varlamov.
Wow, that dude is really good.
The Avs have been playing well lately, winning 8 of their last 11, and many uniproned wonders have been contributing. But no one on the Avs has been better than Varlamov, who has allowed 2 goals or less in 10 of his last 12 appearances. It's taken a while, but this is the guy everyone was so confident about back in the fall.
It didn't always look that way. Back on December 31st, Varlamov had a GAA over 3 and a Save Percentage below .900. Since then, we've talked about his streakiness and lauded his potential over his so-so play. You can ignore that stuff (for now), because Varly has been nothing short of dazzling (see below). He's doing what you'd want of a guy you gave up a first- and second-round pick for: playing damn good hockey. Is there anyone who wouldn't make that deal for him today?
