The Avalanche have signed 32-year-old defenseman Greg Zanon to a two-year, $4.5 million contract. Zanon is a solid, stay-at-home defenseman who has played with the Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild and Boston Bruins. The 5'11" 211-pound Burnaby, BC native was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 5th round. In 449 games played, he's scored 12 goals and 44 assists for 56 points in his career. His real value, though, is in his own end. Zanon is a tough customer, registering 116 hits and 136 blocked shots in 56 games last season.
He sounds much like some other guys the Avs have manning the blueline, especially Ryan O'Byrne. A trade seems imminent.
