Game 33 Preview - Avs at Stars

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Avs head to Dallas to finish up the home-and-home series.

Wow. It feels like we just saw these guys last night!

Less than 24 hours ago, the floodgates opened offensively for the Avs.  Five different players scored, half of whom were blueliners. Stastny broke his 9 game pointless streak with two goals and a couple of assists, and Parenteau had 3 helpers. All four lines were firing, and the team finished with 48 shots.

The Stars played pretty well too, but couldn't convert. They managed 33 SOG and forced Varlamov to make some fairly spectacular saves. The Avs did outplay them (especially in the second period), but the Texans will be looking for revenge on home ice tonight.

Penalty killing was a large factor in the game. Seven of the eight goals were scored at even strength, with only Dallas' first tally coming on a 4 on 4. While this means the Avalanche PK is humming along nicely, the team is now a troubling 0 for 31 on the power play in their last 10 games, a team record. However, the man-advantage looked more dangerous than it has in a while, so the cold snap could end tonight.

Ryan Wilson won't be in the lineup. He was slated to return today, but after skating with Roy yesterday, it was decided that he wouldn't make the trip. Tanguay is expected to start skating within the week. Holden is likely to be a healthy scratch.

For Dallas, Aaron Rome suffered a lower body injury last night while trying to check Jamie McGinn and is very questionable for tonight's game. If he is indeed out of the lineup, Jordie Benn (who was a healthy scratch yesterday) will likely take his place.

This will be the 4th of 5 meetings between these two Central Division foes. The Avs currently lead the series 3-0.
