With the United States Olympic Team being announced tomorrow I thought it would be fun to throw out some of our own projections on how the squad will shape up. Whoever is the closest will win the everlasting honor in your heart of being correct. Keep in mind David Poile is the general manager so offensively skilled players are strictly prohibited! Only defensemen and grinders allowed. I think the roster below int he comments gives the US versatility to play multiple different styles of game. That first line will be hell to play against. The tenacity and skill combination of Kesler and Parise along with the pure magic of Patrick Kane presents matchup problems for anybody. Then throw out Backes on a second line with JVR and Kessel for some size and more scoring. I could see an arguement for putting Pavelski on line 2, Backes on line 3 for a killer shut down line, and Stastny on line 4. The defense is tough in the bottom pairs. Suter, McDonagh, and Shattenkirk are stone cold locks. I think they should take Yandle as special teams always play a huge role in intrnational play. The rest of the defensemen are selected with the same thing in mind. Guys who can play pk and shut down top forwards. The goalies are semi obvious. The only thing I might take issue with is Howard but as a 3rd you are screwed anyway if he is playing. Would love to see your thoughts and lineup projections!
