O'Reilly Guilty of Stupid

I have gone back and forth about how the O'Reilly standoff has been handled. Management really has the upper hand here and I frankly do not blame them for using their upper hand to pressure ROR to sign. O'Reilly is guilty of what is wrong with our society. He believes in BE HAVE DO instead of BE DO HAVE! If the AVS truly have offered him 3.5M a year that frankly is a lot of dough for a 22 year old. If he does not work ths year and gives up 3.5M he will never recoup it. If he is asking 5M and I am AVS management I do the same thing. Where are the offer sheets. When Sakic was a RFA the Rangers put an offer sheet that represented the beginning of the big $$$$ contract era. Sakic had already won a cup. If ROR was worth what he asking the offer sheets would come despite the so called "good ol boy" network amongst NHL owners. Fact is Radar has not done anything yet except put up impressive numbers in stats that are not in the goals and assists category. He is a potential Selke trophy candidate but has not won it to date. Ryan Kesler a Selke winner is earning 5M. O' Reilly is not yet a Ryan Kesler. In a microcosm it may seem that he is worth at least as much as David Jones but Jones got his dollars when he was eligible for UFA which puts him in the negotiating drivers seat...a place O' Reilly clearly is not. What effects will the year off have on O' Reilly's skills. How bad was the injury he suffered in Russia? Is his hold out impacting his reputation as a team first guy? My advice would be to sign and wait if you want to ditch the AVS. Do it when you hold the cards. Now you are just pissing away 3.5 Million!!!!
