I have watched every game the Avs have played since moving to Denver in 1995. I have seen the good and the bad, the Sakic and the Forsberg, the two Stanley Cups and the season of the Tank; and the acquisition of Landeskog because of the work of the tank. I like Joe Sacco. I think he is a coach that seems to stay even keel. You know the saying don't get too high when you win or too low when you lose. That just seems to be Sacco. Unfortunately this season, he and the Avs have faced severe adversity beginning with the ROR saga and continuing with the amount of devastating injuries.
A few things that I have been disappointed in include the fact that Greg Zanon is in the lineup every night despite the fact that he is a -8 on the season with just one assist and slower than every other skater on the team. He also has a knack for turnovers that end up in the back of our net. I know we are thin on the blue line and Barrie is starting to come around but give SOB a chance to play and stay in the lineup. I know he hasn't exactly forced the coaches hand in inserting him into the line up but anything has to be better than Zanon!
Another is the fact that Palushaj was scratched in favor of Chuck Kobasew against LA. This team has struggled to score goals for 2 seasons now and when you get a guy with 4 points in 5 games, it makes no sense to keep a guy in the lineup with just 3 points in 14 games played. That is 100% on the coach.
My last point is that the Avs are just like the coach, even keel. They never get too high or too low, especially when it comes to momentum. If they kill of a 5 on 3, instead of unleashing hell, they just seem to go through the motions. I watched Edmonton come in waves against the Avs when they were down 4 to 1 at Rexall Place and you could feel the tide swing with every goal they scored. When the Avs were down 4 to 1 to LA, you knew it was over. Now I can't say that this last point is on the coach but it sure seems to be a familiar tune.
So what do you all think? Is it time to set Sacco free and start with a new head coach. Or should the Avs continue to allow Sacco to keep the Avs once again out of the playoff picture.
