First of all, I have no disillusions that this will actually happen...
But, I think I'd like it to. Komisarek is 31 which puts him right in the middle of the avs D corp age wise, and has one more year of 4.5 cap hit after this year. I'm not sure how the new waiver rules work but I think if we were to pick him up, Toronto would retain some of the cap hit?
He would be a much improved version of Zanon/O'Brien imo. He is by no means a puck mover, but we have a couple young guys that cover that department. What they need is mentorship and stability that clearly we lack severely. Being a former first round pick and all-star, Komisarek clearly has some value that he could pass onto the younger guys.
Perhaps best of all is that it's not a huge risk. If Komisarek doesn't pan out here it's just one more year at worst.
All in all, it's a safe bet that he'd be better than half our D corp right now (Z, ROB, SOB).
