I'll be honest. I was thinking about taking Cheryl's preview for the Flames game, doing a find and replace to change Calgary Flames to Vancouver Canucks, and calling it good. But I decided that would be trolling too much.
You can understand why, though, right? I'm writing this a few hours before the Flames game and the outcome of that game is basically insignificant. Whether the Avalanche won big, got blown out or lost yet another close-just-a-few-bad-Altitude-breaks loss, this season isn't really a season any longer. It's just a bunch of games.
Maybe that's a silly distinction, but I don't think so. For the the 3rd time in 5 years, the outcome of Avalanche games is completely insignificant (except for the Tanking it for ____ crowd). You tune in to be dazzled by Matt Duchene and P.A. Parenteau and to see if Tyson Barrie is really worthy of all the recent buzz. You tune in to see if Semyon Varlamov and Erik Johnson can turn things around and salvage something out what is shaping up to be their worst seasons in the NHL. Or maybe you check in just to swear under your breath at Greg Zanon or Ryan O'Byrne. Or, maybe you just tune in to see if Kyle Keefe say "penis" on the air. The individual stuff is interesting. The outcome of the game? Yawn.
Maybe we'll get some games that matter next year.
