General Manager Joe Sakic? Coach Lindy Ruff? Assistants Lappy and Foote?

"G.M. Joe, Canadian hero! G.M. Joe is there!" – A play on the 80’s GI Joe cartoon theme song for those old enough to get it (get off my MF lawn!). I was doing some thinking and I am really starting to warm to the idea of Joe Sakic becoming the general manager of the Colorado Avalanche. I was also doing some additional thinking and I feel like the Avalanche needs to hire former Buffalo coach, Lindy Ruff. I was doing some additional, additional thinking and I feel like the Avalanche needs to hire Ian Laperrière and Adam Foote as assistant coaches (if they so desire)… If ANYONE dared to dream about mailing in a season (or even one game for that matter) while those two were on the bench… Let’s just say I would be sorry for that player. This team needs a culture, and not one mimicking the antics of TV’s Entourage. They need blue collar attitude and grit. They ALL need to have G.S. Giguere’s fire and pride. They need to have a GM that will question the "company line" and I feel as if Sakic is that man. They need to be coached by an experienced coach that has seen it all like Lindy Ruff (who coached the Panthers against the Avalanche in the Stanley Cup.) This team (as was evident in G.S. Giguere’s well spoken words to Adrian Dater), is immature and missing a soul. If teammates are dreaming of Las Vegas instead of playing a full, albeit lockout shortened season, they need to be identified and run out of town. The Avalanche players seem to be like a little league baseball team full of reluctant players hoping for a rainout of the game so they can do other things. Did a portion of this Avalanche team secretly hoped for a full season lockout so they can catch up on more interesting things than playing professional hockey? Are there players on this team who feel that they have better things to do? If so, get them out of here no matter how much "upside" they have. The only way to change the dire direction the Avalanche is heading is for a culture shift. No more of this "Injuries are secret and Injured players are off limits to the media" B.S.; no more of this "If you don’t go along with the organization you will be traded" B.S. Instead a culture of pride and accountability (even public) needs to be adopted. No secrets; Coloradans don’t like secrets and we despise the dishonest. If this culture does not change, Mr. Kroenke you are going to lose this market (and its love of hockey) forever. But I doubt you care right now… Go Nuggets? (Mic drop)
