News of the Colorado Avalanche - Links from around the NHL - April 25th, 2013

Dilip Vishwanat

Milan Hejduk will play in the game on Saturday, this is very likely his last NHL game.

When the Colorado Avalanche play their final game of the season on Saturday at home against the Minnesota Wild, it could also be the final game for Milan Hejduk. Of his career, that is.

Hejduk, who signed a one-year extension before this season, has not had the best of seasons. In 28 games, the 37-year-old has just four goals and seven assists, on a similar pace to his 14-goals, 23-assists season last year, numbers that were a bit disappointing. It was just two seasons ago that Hejduk had 22 goals and 34 assists.

A follow-up with Duncan Keith.

"There was no intent from my point. I respect everybody. I respect everybody’s job," Keith told reporters at Rexall Place after a morning skate ahead of Wednesday’s game against Edmonton.

"You don’t differentiate [between] male and female reporters?" Keith was asked.

"No," he replied. "I’ve got [CSN-Chicago reporter] Tracey Myers here. I deal with her all the time. She’s a great reporter."

There is a nice piece about the Avs Military Appreciation Night.

The stadium erupted with cheers as the Colorado Avalanche took the ice for the pregame warm-up Sunday donning special camouflage jerseys as a show of support for the men and women who serve the nation in uniform.

Service members and their families from throughout the Front Range were honored during the course of the Colorado Avalanche’s second annual Military Appreciation Night at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Jones, a 6-foot-4 right-handed shot, was born in Arlington, Tex., but grew up in Denver, where the Colorado Avalanche star Joe Sakic suggested to Jones’s father that Seth be given skating lessons. As a 6 year old, he sat along the glass with his mother and brothers when the Avalanche won Game 7 of the 2001 Stanley Cup finals.

The Avalanche will most likely hold the No. 2 spot in the N.H.L. draft lottery on Monday, giving them a good chance of drafting Jones.

Great news for Ottawa and Erik!

Ottawa Senators head coach Paul MacLean said defenceman Erik Karlsson will join the team on its trip to Washington but no decision has been made on when he might return to action.

The star blue-liner has been out of the lineup since suffering a serious injury to his Achilles tendon on Feb. 13.

Karlsson was expected to miss the rest of the season following surgery to repair the tendon, which was sliced by a skate during a game. However, the defending Norris Trophy winner recently returned to practice and was back with regular defence partner Marc Methot for Wednesday's skate.

Cheryl here. This weekend, the sixth-annual Quest for the Crown hockey tournament will include a silent auction to help raise money for the Jessica Redfield Foundation. From the Denver Post:

If you’re around the Edge Ice Arena in Littleton this weekend, you should stop in. Justin Goldman will be running his sixth annual Quest for the Crown, an adult hockey tournament. As part of the fun, a silent auction will be held, and this year some of the items up for bid include a signed jersey worn by Gabe Landeskog of the Avs, and Matt Duchene also donated some items. There is also a hockey stick signed by the DU Pioneers team of this season (wonder if George Gwozdecky signed it).

All proceeds from the auction will go to the Jessica Redfield Foundation. Jessica’s memory continues to live on in a great number of good works, including this one.
