The Avs finally fired Coach Joe Sacco after another bad season missing the playoffs.
A lot of the Avs issues revolved around defensive issues, and really poor play on the road. Varlamov has also become an issue because of his inconsistent play, and lack of road wins. Although, better Defensemen in front of him may help to resolve the issue if the Avs cannot find another free agent goalie.
The Avs offense looked fairly good Parenteau had 18 goals in half a season, and Duchene had 17.
The one factor I didn't realize until I read about it recently was the Avs had a great record of 13-4-1 against Eastern Teams last season. So the other factor besides Ryan O'Reilly--east conference games-- that might have saved the Avs season, and Sacco's job wasn't available in a short season against western conference teams.
Sacco's firing reminded me kind of like what happened to Bob Hartley where players stopped responding to his coaching.
Hopefully, the Avs will find a better coach and get back in the playoff hunt next season.
