Even if Sakic & Roy would like to win now, let's try to figure out what's the 3-year plan...
Strenghts: Talent & Depth at Center, Defensive depth
Weaknesses: Depth on Wings, Top-pair talent on D, unproven #1 goaltending
The ROR situation
I really believe, whether he likes it or not, that ROR can become a better winger than pivot. He can still create turnovers from LW and his offensive zone play is better suited along the boards. If the money factor is resolved, I would keep him as a top 6 winger with talent and grit, the kind of player we need in the playoffs. As a LW I project his output will be in the 25G/35A range with a potential upside of 30G/40A.
The Stastny situation
Paul likes the Avs. He likes Denver and I don't believe money would be his first consideration when signing a new contract. I would offer Paul a 2-year extension at 4.5M per. If he signs great! If not... see ya! It would give Nathan 3 years to learn the ropes and go from #3 C to #2C... to most likely #1 C. But at that price, I believe he'll play elsewhere so he will probably end-up being trade material along with McGinn and our 2014 1st pick for a top-pair D.
Landeskog
I think Landy should play RW like he did in the CHL. I like the future combo MACK - LANDESKOG both one-timer ready as a duo.
2014-2015 Line-up would look like:
ROR - Duchene - Parenteau
FA LW - Mackinnon - Landeskog
Tanguay - Sgarbossa/Hishon - Downie
Mcleod - Mitchell - Bordeleau
New D - Johnson
Barrie- Hejda
Wilson - Bigras
Siemens - Elliott
A lot of IFs... it all depends on the Stastny/ROR strategy I guess...
