Avalanche sign D André Benoit

Phillip MacCallum

The Avalanche fill the recently opened roster spot by signing defenseman André Benoit to a one-year $900,000 contract.

Benoit is a 5'11" 197-pound defenseman who most recently played for the Ottawa Senators. The 29-year-old has spent most of his career in the AHL although he did put up 10 points (3g, 7a) in 33 games with the Sens last season.

Benoit is an offensive-minded defenseman who is considered to be creative playmaker with good passing skills. He will most likely see time on the power play unit as that is where he excels.

This isn't the top pairing guy we were hoping for, but he's got the mentality the Avs love. He'll bring a veteran PMD presence to the team, as well.
