Landeskog gave an interview on TV in Sweden right before he left to return to North America last week. My Swedish friend Malin (@rabiesmalin) did a rough translation of the interview, which is provided below. The following are rough quotes of what he said, not exactly word for word.
The contract extension
It's not about the money, it's about that they believed in me. The money is really nice obviously and it's good to know where I will live for the next 7 years.
Why he was chosen to be captain
It's my upbringing and that I can talk to the group, not be afraid if there are conflicts. It's important to relate to everyone on the team from the first line player to the fourth line.
There are many Swedish captains in the NHL because we are taught from an early age to be team players and listen and consider what the other people on the team think and feel. Swedes are good people.
The off season
First week in June to midsummer vacation I was in North America and Mexico. Then home to train and I have been on the ice the last couple of weeks.
March 6 in Detroit is the game I'm looking forward to because we play in Detroit and Lidström's jersey is going to the rafters.
Playing for Tre Kronor
Winning the Stanley Cup is obviously the biggest goal.
The season was tough for me so winning Worlds meant a lot to me to go into the summer on a positive note.
There are a lot of good Swedish players so I would take any role as long as I just get to sit on the bench in the Olympics.
