Avalanche sends G Calvin Pickard back to the Monsters

Doug Pensinger

Calvin Pickard has been cut from the Avalanche roster, bringing it down to 37 players. This isn't an indication of Pickard's play at all as he is slated to begin the season in Cleveland as the #1 goalie. The Avs's coaching staff got a great look at him on Friday night as he helped the Avalanche come back from a two-goal deficit to win in OT against the Los Angeles Kings.

Sami Aittokallio is still on the roster, and he might see more time in net before he's sent back to the Monsters himself. However, it will most likely be as a backup as JS Giguere has yet to start, and Roy has stated he wants to start Semyon Varlamov in the bulk of the remaining games.
