The guy that broke Sam Gagner's jaw has been suspended for five games.
The NHL has suspended Vancouver Canucks forward Zack Kassian for five regular-season games and the rest of the pre-season for a hit that broke the jaw of Edmonton forward Sam Gagner.
Kassian collided with Gagner along the boards in the second period of the Oilers’ 5-2 home exhibition win over Vancouver on Saturday. Kassian’s stick struck Gagner’s face, knocking out several of the Edmonton forward’s teeth.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson has been suspended 10 regular-season games without pay for leaving the bench to take part in a fight.
Clarkson's move to join the fight Sunday during Toronto's 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres will delay his Leafs debut until Oct. 25 at Columbus.
The six-foot-one, 200-pound right-winger was coming to the defence of Phil Kessel after Sabres enforcer John Scott tried to instigate a fight with the Leafs star in the third period.
Torres is likely out for awhile.
The San Jose Sharks will be without forward Raffi Torres for the start of the season because of an injured right knee.
Torres was injured in a collision with Anaheim forward Emerson Etem on Friday night.
Torres and the Sharks will decide in the next few days whether he needs surgery. If he rehabs the injury, he might miss only the first month. If he needs surgery, he would likely be sidelined for three to four months.
