Colorado finds itself at a threshold, crossing from rebuilding team to playoff threat ,and a step away from cup contender. The Avs are, in most people's opinion, ahead of schedule. We have passed other rebuilding teams, such as the oilers, on the path to respectability. The team is learning how to win and have the attitude change it desperately needed. There are decisions to be made with Stastny and O'Reily but those will seemingly wait till the off season. Its painfully obvious the defensive corps is lacking, help is on the way with Bigras (who reminds me of Washington's Karl Alzner) and possibly Siemens. Roy should be given serious coach of the year honors getting this team into playoff contention with a defense half comprised of castoffs and retreads.
When the Olympics end there will be precious little time before the trade deadline. It is rumored that Stastny and O'Reily will not be traded, although an off season O'Reily deal is not out of the question. P.A. Parenteau has fallen out of favor with Roy and Wilson hasn't solidified a regular spot on D having been pushed down the depth chart by Holden and Guenin. With all the youth on this team a first round pick could be expendable (but Alex Peters the 6'3 defensive stalwart from plymouth is an possibility as a late first rounder) The Avs tend to scramble in their own zone and lack a calming presence. The priority is obtaining a solid top four defender.
What Dmen would you target?
