The NHL Department of Player safety has requested the presence of one Matthew Cooke for afternoon tea and a chat about his dirty fucking knee-on-knee hit on Tyson Barrie. The hit occurred in the third period of Game 3 of the division semi-finals. The in-person hearing means that the suspension can exceed five games. It's doubtful he will see ice for the remainder of this series, even if it goes to seven games. You don't get a date in front of the DoPS if you're just going to get a slap on the wrist.
It seems they just might get this one right. Sadly, it doesn't do much to help Barrie, but it does limit the threat of Cooke hurting Nathan MacKinnon, the guy Wild coach Mike Yeo wanted Cooke to target.
