Yahoo Sports Summer of Disapointment: Colorado Avalanche, An Unmitigated Disaster Version

So much like you I've been reading these things, waiting for the Avs to come up, when, lo and behold, it had already come out and I missed it. I didn't miss much, as I read it this afternoon, I kept thinking to myself, "um, no, like this isn't the worst it's been." No, someone suffering from denial wrote this,I believe this is the true worst moments of the Colorado Avalanche. Feel free to disagree in comments, maybe I'm repressing something.

Most Disappointing team: He says: 2010-11 Squad, I think it's top 5, but the team that lost to Edmonton in 98 was more disappointing, but even that team had nothing on the most disappointing team ever in Avalanche History.

An Unmitigated Disaster says: How can it not be the 2003-04 Avs? They lost Roy, but Aebischer was an average NHL goalie that season (as he was for pretty much his whole career). Sakic, Forsberg, Kariya, Selanne, Tanguay and Hejduk, what could go wrong? This is they type of team you put together on EA sports games, they were going to break all kinds of scoring records. The D still had Blake and Foote, a young (IE still good) J.M. Liles and Karlis Skrastins, as well as a decent number of 5/6 D men. The team never meshed, I blame the 2nd worst coach the avs ever had, Tony Granato, for being the type of coach that he's always been--bad. Kariya was hurt as was Forsberg, then Selanne was hurt and decided to pretty much give up on the year. Steve Moore was crippled that year, that was pretty shitty I'd say. And (Author's note:) Holy Shit the 2nd worst trade the avs ever made, the Tommy Salo acquisition was made this year too. Oh, and Barnaby should have stayed with the avs too. I just don't see how this wasn't the most disappointing team ever.

Most Disappointing Player: He says Scott Parker, mostly because he was a 1st round bust (which he was) and because he spoke ill of Steve Moore (he did). There are about 10 or 15 other avs I'd rate before Parker if you sat me down and made me rank them, Turgeon and Breezeby for not being Forsberg and Foote. Hell even Marek Svatos showed massive promise before his shoulders gave out on them. But all of those guys are the foothills compared to the Everest of Avalanche Disappointing Players ever:

An Unmitigated Disaster's most Disappointing player ever: Brad May. How can it be anyone else,? This guy was HATED, HATED by the fans because of the Moore assault. In a massive either tone deafness or a kind of "Fuck You Fans" It could be either, Pierre Lacroix was always kind of a dick, and he did make some rather stupid moves by the end--maybe he thought everything would be forgotten after the lost lockout year. Either way, Douchbag JR. was an Av, was booed repeated at home for every game he was an Av and made every Av fan discomfortable whenever he made a good play--which luckily for our consciences didn't happen all that often. The avs traded him to Anaheim for some scrub that was a bust and Avs nation rejoiced.

Most Disappointing Moment in Avalanche History: He says: 2002 Game Seven 7-0 Lost to Detroit

An Unmitigated Disaster's take: Yep Nailed it, I bailed on that game at 4 or 5 to nothing and went to the Espnzone (which was a think way back when) and drank and mini-bowled my self out of my misery.

Most Disappointing Avalanche Transaction: He says O'Reilly RFA Fiasco 2012/2013 Off-season Yes, it's disappointing, but I think beside the already mentioned Salo trade, losing Forsberg and Foote after the lockout sucked, but there was also one other transaction that was worse:

An Unmitigated Disaster's Avalanche's most disappointing transaction: It has to be the Drury trade right? Chris Drury, one of the most clutch Av's ever (and former little league world series player, FYI) dared to ask for and received, a market value contract, in a non salary cap league where the avs were making money hand over fist. Got shipped out, in division--with Stephan Yelle, who in his own right was a damn good 3rd line center for a big pile of puke. Derek Morris, who promptly showed everyone he's a #4 D, at best. Jeff Shantz, who was a subpar version of Yelle, and Dean McAmmond, a guy that so didn't want to be an Av that he got traded back to the Flames and because of rules couldn't play for them. I wonder if the Avs wanted him gone by that point or if Calgary was previewing the inept management that would haunt them for the next 10 years. For a long time the only saving grace on this trade was that it led to the Paul Stastny pick. So, yeah, that trade still stings after all these years.

Most Disappointing Avalanche Coach/Executive: He says: Francois Giguere, yes, but. He hired:

An Unmitigated Disaster agrees, that he sucks. Joe Sacco has to be the most Disappointing coach ever (for the avs). Where do we start? His teams defensemen had 4 goals in the latest lockout season. He had a bizarre 'system' that only rewarded 3rd and 4th line grinders for their effort--Daniel Winnik was his first line winger for most of the (12)13' season(at least they got MacKinnon out of that). Let's just say he never heard of analytics and if he did he dismissed them. He made pretty much each and every player on his roster worse--Patrick Roy took pretty much the same team to the playoffs the next year.

Most Disappointing Avalanche Fashion Choice: He says Bernie the St. Bernard

An Unmitigated Disaster says:

If you bought one of those, I hate you.

Sorry I brought up so many bad memories.
