Yesterday morning the Vegas Golden Knights announced they had fired head coach Gerard Gallant and assistant coach Mike Kelly. Since their inaugural season in 2017-2018, Gallant is the only head coach the franchise has known.
The Knights hired former San Jose Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer who will join the team starting today. A new assistant coach has not yet been named. Las Vegas has gone 24-19-6, good for fifth place in the Pacific, while DeBoer left the Sharks when they were 15-16-2 on Dec. 11.
More All-Star Events
The Gatorade NHL Shooting Stars challenge is a new event as part of the 2020 NHL All-Star Skills competition presented by New Amsterdam Vodka in St. Louis on Jan. 24 (8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, SN, TVAS) https://t.co/liJsLXjKvD

“The Gatorade NHL Shooting Stars challenge will involve 10 players who will be on an elevated platform behind the goal approximately 30 feet above the ice, shooting pucks at a variety of targets on the ice, with each holding a different point value. Each player will take seven shots, one at a time, and earn points.” - NHL.com
This event will take place as part of the All-Star Skills competition on Jan. 24. It’s intended to provide a more relaxed event and let players shoe off some of their tricks. The players who will participate will be announced later, but Patrick Burke, senior director of NHL player safety does not anticipate any difficulties finding willing participants. Additional protective netting will be installed for the competition.

Keep healing up! #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/gbfUoZ62h7
Joonas Donskoi is still recovering from the concussion he sustained against the New York Rangers last Tuesday. He skated in a non-contact sweater yesterday and has been ruled out for tonight’s game. It was the first time he joined the team for official practice since his injury, previously he only skated on his own or at optional practices. This will be the third consecutive game he will miss.
Frankenstein's Stretches
Who put Josty in charge!?#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/NXDkTg5Own

Cale Makar and Tyson Jost attended a TeamFIT event during their day off yesterday. Somehow Jost took over and instructed the kids to do Frankenstein stretches, which they were more excited about than Makar’s burpees. Jost did a partial demonstration before they began and Makar watched from the sidelines. In an attempt to provide encouragement, or something, Jost followed behind and kicked his legs in the air every few seconds. Someone needs to make sure he actually stretches before the game today.
