Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Ryan Smyth Out With A Broken Ankle

Now it's just piling on.

Sure enough, despite earlier reports that his injury wasn't serious, it is now confirmed that Ryan Smyth will miss eight weeks of the season with a broken ankle.

We lose two star players to long-term injuries at the same time, the team goes into free fall after a few good wins (again) and it's almost abandon ship time.

I think we can all agree that this season isn't going to be as great as well all hoped and expected.  The Avs are still in fine shape to make the playoffs, but a deep run is pretty doubtful with the way they've been playing lately.

The season's only half over, though.  I suppose the situation could improve.

Re: Ryan Smyth Out With A Broken Ankle
Well, we're all feeling down after these news... First Sakic, then losses, now Smyth. It's not that Sakic had been playing good, but it's not the same Colorado Avalanche when nº 19 is not playing.

Anyway, things don't look pretty right now and I don't have much to say. 40 games down, let's hope more than 42 to end our season. It's going to be tough to get back to fighting for division title now...

Whatever :-/

i wonder...

when you really start to think about getting value for players on their way out the door -- Liles, Brunette, etc.  I really doubt both of them will be back if they want much more money, and they have significant trade value.  Montoya anyone?

Stick a fork in us...

the rest of the North West just did. We might as well change the name officially to the Colorado Monsters because the guys we just sent down are coming right back.

Not good,

Some players will have to step up big time.
