Game 40: Coyotes 5, Avalanche 2

Another game against the Coyotes, another debacle. Marek Svatos scored both Avalanche goals but cost his team the game by taking a lousy late tripping penalty. Shane Doan subsequently scored the game-winner on the power play. Add in the two empty-netters and it looks like a blowout.
Steve Reinprecht and Ilya Bryzgalov have now each officially earned the title "Avalanche Killer."
Box score is here. AP recap is here.
Discuss.
Stars Of The Game:
- Steve Reinprecht (3g, 1a)
- Ilya Bryzgalov (24sv, .923)
- Marek Svatos (2g, 0a)

WTF?
How can we lose two straight games to the Phoenix Coyotes? I am so pissed.

the wheels are starting to come off...
this top line slump has to end soon if we intend to stay in playoff contention.
can't beat the worst....
It was one thing to lose to the best team in the league, but to lose three straight to the worst two team in the west? Well Phoenix was the 2nd worst in the west. Thanks to us they climb above Edmonton and are neck n' neck with Nashville. Since they've learned Sakic won't be back for a while they've forgot how to play hockey.
Quenville's a SLOW learner. He should have learned after the first SH-EN goal that pulling the goalie does not work for us. Good job giving Reinprecht a hat-trick Q.

I mentioned a bit ago how similar this could end up looking to last year. Unfortunately, it's turned out to be true.
Last year, we pulled into first place right before the Christmas break, then lost to a good team (Dallas) before losing 2 in a row to a bad one (St Louis). We never got back into it after that.
This year, we pulled into first place right before the Christmas break, then lost to Detroit, LA, and now two in a row to Phoenix.
And we won't get back into it if that PP doesn't turn around, and fast.

Boots?
Any informed opinions on Boots' play last night? I was working and didn't get to see the game, but after the Avs Killer's show in Phoenix in the previous game, I don't think I missed anything but more of the same.
Boots
He still seems to be in the right position, but the last 3 games or so his rebound control hasn't been what it was the previous week. Instead of controlling rebounds they seem to be heading into traffic a lot more.

Re: Boots
Which also means the defense is slipping again because they're not controlling that traffic.
