A Better Way To Pick A Starting Goalie

With Peter Budaj getting the start in net last night for no good reason other than he must have stopped sleeping with Coach Q's wife, some of us may have wondered if a win against the Ducks would have propelled him back into the "starter" role---whatever that means. Since Jose Theodore had been performing decently but still not winning, it stood to reason that maybe Q was tired of Theo (or Theo was just tired) and it was time for a change.
Well, with Budaj's loss you have to assume that Theodore will be right back in net against the Coyotes tomorrow night.
But instead of all this back and forth, guessing and waiting and whatnot, isn't there a better way to decide who should play in net than Coach Q's adultery-fueled dart board experiments?
The geniuses (savants?) at The Pensblog have a much better idea. The Penguins are struggling with which goalie they should go with---the previous-starter-now-back-from-injury Marc Andre Fleury or the amazing-out-of-nowhere Ty Conklin. Instead of boring, statistical analysis punctuated by a drawn-out, bitter pissing contest among readers in the comments thread, how about a jury trial? Complete with true Photoshop wizardry! This entry proves why The Pensblog is probably the best hockey blog (non-statistics-oriented) on the Internets.
Having laughed my abs into spasms reading that entry, I have come to realize that MHH has gotten waaaaaaaay too bitter and serious over the past couple of weeks. Where did my sense of humor go? Where did everyone's?
Let's quit taking ourselves so seriously and enjoy the lunacy that now drives the Colorado Avalanche franchise. You have to admit, the team has become a comedy of errors (coaching, defense, goaltending, injury, etc.) that can only be laughed at. Why can't we laugh about this sorry ass team? Are we that stuck up our own asses?

speak for yourself
I was having fun recently! :)
We should get creative about calling for Q and Granato's heads. Our goal should be to get Dater to mention it -- we know his blog gets read by Avs people.
A faux trial convicting Q of bad coaching would be fun, if not original. maybe a good parody of that awful GMC commercial?
Fun
I've been having fun
Calling Joe Kermit the Frog, Mike@MHH Gonzo and DD Fozzi Bear. I've also traded away the coaching staff.
Oh I mentioned it in the game thread, but if you didn't see it the Anaheim announcers did this last night:
Complaining about the size of goalie equipment.
I find this highly ironic
Oh they also said this:
Just said they think Budaj will "keep the crease" if he wins the game tonight.
those Ducks announcers were enough to keep me entertained last night.

Ducks guys
started off about 1:30 in saying that the Avs hadn't had a line change yet. not true. and they went downhill from there, getting our players mixed up all night (Hensick and Arnason especially).
My favorite moment was in the 3rd when we were on that 4 on 4 with the game tied. Heyward went into overdrive, pointing out that the Avs were "really going for it" because they had the high octane line of...Tyler Arnason and Marek Svatos. ooooooooooooh, scaaaaaaaary.

FYI
I think Wall or Weiman should be on the Bullseye. Obviously Q hasn't hit it yet, but if he did you know he'd call him up and start him.

stuck up own asses
Think of the ensuing comedy if coach Q was fired. You know what I'm talking about. GMC wondering if they should just keep running the commercials anyway. Q thinking about what he did wrong by constantly shifting the order of his shirts in his closet. The constant stalking of Richardson and Budaj leading to a drunken brawl between Q and a guy how looks like Richardson. His wife becoming head coach to be closer to her "boys."
sigh....good times.
lol
I can imagine him sitting in his den, with boxers an old white t-shirt and a robe on, a glass of scotch in one hand and the bottle in the other, muttering stuff like
"had I just switched up lines a few more times" swig...
...
silence...
...
...
"Maybe I should have swapped Buds and Theo between periods once in a while" pours another glass
....
...
...
silence...
...
...
swigs straight from the bottle
...
...
...
"That's IT!!! Instead of trying not to score in only the third period, I'll just go for the automatic point from the beginning of the game. Think that's 82 points to start the season, then we only need to win 14 games to make the playoffs. You figure we'll luck into that many in the shootout alone."
swigs from bottle
chucks scotch bottle against the wall and it shatters
"I will remember this at my next job, and I will get a next job"
That's exactly how it would go too

Drunk Q
An obviously drunk Q walks into a bar and orders a drink. As the bartender reluctantly pours a drink, Q looks up to the tv as Altitude's post game show is on.
Peter McNabb: "The avs are awesome with their 14-0 win over Calgary. But I still love Dion Phaneuf. Everybody is the best at everything."
Ex-coach Q: "DANT SAY ME EHD, i mean, DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!" He screams while shaking his fist at the tv.
Peter McNabb: "The avs were smart to call Geico and save money on their car insurance. They were also smart to fire Coach Q, which I was arguing since he got hired."
Ex-coach Q: "YOU DON'T KNOW ME!"
Bartender Bob Hartley: "Ok, get out. Your too drunk." as he returns with the drink.
Ex-coach Q: "But I used to coach for them!"
Bartender Bob Hartley: "Like I haven't heard THAT excuse before."
Funnily enough
I had the same thought when someone posted about practicing shootouts in the game thread. If we practice the shootout then Q would play D the whole game in the hope of making it to the shootout for the guarenteed point.
Good post
From now on, I intend to emphasize the 'High' in MHH in my posts. I haven't figured out if that means prescriptive cold meds or something more recreational, but either way, it should have a posative impact on my Avalanche viewing experience...
Bravo
Go glad you posted this Joe. I was getting a little worried about the heaviness of the posts lately. Good to know humor and sarcasm still reigns supreme.
