Wolski Out, Forsberg Questionable As Always

PrintAccording to the Denver Post, Wojtek Wolski suffered an injury "most likely to his ribs" (really, nobody can tell?) and is not expected to play the rest of the series against the Red Wings.
With him out, I'm not expecting the Avs to play any more series after the Red Wings, so there's a strong possibility that Woolie's season is over.
Peter Forsberg, as always, doesn't have a clue about his own health or his limits, and might or might not play on Saturday maybe. Or maybe not. Probably.

Wojtek "FuhQ" Wolski's campaign of revenge is cut short. He was fighting for benched Hlinka's everywhere. But now that he is out, Hlinka might come back.

Well, we're screwed. The Avs injury curse comes back with a fury, just when we thought we were safe.
Injury Curse
Well if it has moved on from S to W, at least Wolski is the only one. (Unless you count Wyatt Smith but I like to pretend he doesn't exist anyway). Forsberg doesn't count either. He an annomoly.
Regarding Smith
Don't be surprised if he is in the lineup tomorrow if Forsberg can't go. It should be Hlinka, but knowing Coach Q...

a kid, that's never seen the NHL before, and would be motivated. maybe a big guy, with scoring touch.

its gonna be tough to win this series now. it'll have to be on our D and goaltending.
I wouldn't mind Arnason scoring in a close game either. that might friggin help.

Oh please, this injury vagueness is really irritating. What do they mean "probably"?! Anyone, ANYONE who's ever had a broken or bruised rib(s) KNOWS it. If it's not a rib injury then what else is it, an armpit concussion?
Not a big deal.
Wolski is a one-dimensional, streaky player. He's either scoring and making you think he's going to be a star, or he's as useless as could be. That's fine for the regular season, but if he's not lighting the Wings up, it's better that he's out of the lineup.
Forsberg is the injury that really hurts (NPI). He's a great player to have out there, obviously, but he's worth so much more than that because the team is so enamored with him like Dater said.
We're still a MUCH deeper team than Detroit. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are their Sakic and Forsberg. Holmstrom's one talent is equal to that of Smyth in that particular area, but Smyth brings a complete package to the table, while Holmstrom is a liability in every other situation. They have no Stastny, no Brunette, etc. Their top two DMen are great, but there's nothing much else after that. Both of our goalies are better than theirs. Their coach is obviously much better than our worthless loser, but that's not saying much.
We should still win this series. I predicted Avs in 5 or 6 before the series started, but we might be looking at 7 now.

The only problem with that line of thought is that Wolski was (IMO) the best forward outside of Smyth in the entire Wild series for all-around play. You're contention that the loss of a 'streaky' player isn't that big a deal only holds water if he's not currently on a streak when he gets hurt. Unfortunately, you can't say that about Wolski going into the Detroit series.

If anything, Wolski was the most consistent player on the team in the first round. His puck handling was ace and he scored five points in six games. He didn't get a chance to "light up" the Wings, so he can't be criticized for not doing it.

Nobody criticized him for not lighting up the Wings. He just didn't do it and wasn't about to. And as for the argument that he was the most consistent player for a series, even if we were to pretend that was true (I'd point to Salei, Theodore, Foote, Smyth, etc well before anyone could begin to mention Wolski in that argument), saying that someone was consistent for a series is not saying anything at all. Consistency isn't measured by series, it's measured by seasons and careers. Consistency is a proven record of consistent performance night in and night out for an extended period of time, not a 6-game hot streak.

Wolski
Yeah, but Wolski wasn't the best or most consistent Av forward for the Wild series. He was better than usual, but he was not the best by any stretch.
I realize that a lot of Avs fans have a Wolski fetish, but he's really nothing special at all. No big loss. He got off to a hot start against Dallas in '06 and then faded back into obscurity a few games later, and was nowhere to be seen in the second round.
I'd much rather see Hensick or Jones given his minutes and linemates, and this injury is no big loss at all.

What about Hensiiick
How do you think he'd fare replacing Wolski, the few games he played he was great on the powerplay and thats what we really need to work on in this series. He's young so he should be motivated and coming from Michigan he'd probably want to do really well in front of his friends and family.
Regardless Of Injuries
This series has to be an all team effort. Everyone, no matter who is in the line up has to come out and play every game and every shift like we want the Cup. Forsberg not playing is a blow to the offense but it is not game deciding. The only way the Avs will tank in this series is if the team, as a whole, does not play with full effort and heart for 60 minutes every game.

Yup. Although, Jib said today it was the trainer's fault he played, I disagreed. Q has eyes and it is very easy to see when someone is damn sick.
I want to know why
you would even let someone with the flu inside a locker room during the playoffs, there's just to much risk of someone esle getting it as well.
Avs looking a lot better early
I'd like to see a little more physicality, but still, a huge improvement.
