Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Hmmm, Interesting...

For those of you who hadn't heard yet, the Toronto Maple Leafs fired their coach Paul Maurice today.  Now, on its face, it wouldn't seem to have much of an impact on the Colorado Avalanche.

But it might.

We bloggers have use for actual journalists (even those disguised as bloggers), because journalists keep track of crap we usually forget---or don't even notice in the first place.

For instance, Dater posts today a few interesting tidbits of info I hadn't previously thought about:

Well, what do you know, the head coaching position for the Toronto Maple Leafs just opened up.

And, what do you know, Joel Quenneville is without a contract to coach a team for next season right now. And, what do you know, the general manager of the Maple Leafs is Cliff Fletcher, the same man who gave Quenneville his first coaching job, as Marc Crawford’s assistant with the St. John’s Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League, in 1991.

And, gee, Quenneville grew up in Ontario as a big Leafs fan and was drafted by Toronto and started his NHL playing career there.

The coincidences are starting to pile up, folks. We could very well be seeing the process whereby our Coach Q leaves for Toronto.

Of course he qualifies it all as speculation, but he's got a point.  The coincidences are indeed piling up.

Adrian, I knew we kept you around for a reason.  Nice work, even if nothing comes of it.

Hat tip to Bob in Boulder.

Awesome!

Hey Q, don't let the door hitcha...

Man, can this PLEASE be true? Pretty please? And can he be dead set on taking Cloutier and Tin Dome Tony with him?

Not to mention

This part of Dater's post.

Oh, and here’s another interesting fact: Francois Giguere said on the radio this morning that he’ll probably leave for Eastern Canada soon to take in some of the World Championships. Just so happens a hot coaching candidate, Canada assistant Pat Burns, will be there, too.

I'm not sure Burns wants another NHL head coach gig but who knows.

Maurice

I don't watch many Leafs, or 'Canes, games. Is he a good coach? Worth Pursuing?

I don't think anything can be learned from his Leafs days, that's as dysfunctional an organization as there is. No coach has a chance there.

He had a Cup finals appearance with Carolina and was fired after an 8-12 start, which seems a bit like a panic move to me.

Just throwing it out there, because I don't know much about him.

Seen him for years.

He came up through my favorite junior team. Youngest head coach in NHL history. Had success, but has a short shelf-life. Players tune him out and then he has to move on.

I wouldn't pursue him. Many better options out there.

ARGH!

What, are you trying to jinx us?

I'm heartened

that you think anything I say could jinx us any more than the possibility of Q remaining behind the bench.

Did I miss something, or...

....did you completely miss my point?

There are unsubstantiated rumors that Idiot is on his way out. You celebrate as if it's FG announcing that Idiot is gone and a new coach is about to be announced.

I'm not the superstitious type, but there is such thing as a jinx, and it is impossible to overpower. Don't mess with it.

Assume that either Idiot will be back (after the Avs get into a bidding war with the Leaves) or that he will leave and Tin Dome Tony will (re)take the job.

Re: Did I miss...

Humor doesn't translate well through the intrawebs.

And to make a point, how do you know that I wasn't thrilled that the MakeMeLaughs have fired yet another coach who was doomed from the start and now they can start planning the parade route for whatever schmuck takes that job?

I apologize if I offended your superstitious sensibilities with my off-hand remark.  I am all to aware of the power of the jinx.  No names were mentioned, no specific references made to any player/coach/staff.  How exactly did I jinx it?

FYIW, I am not celebrating anybodies departure, rumored or otherwise.  I'm firmly rooted in reality (most of the time) and I am mature enough to relize that nothing is true until FG makes it true. Or is it that you immediately think everything I post has a negative connotation? Given our history, is completely understandable.

Ah, you win on a technicality.

No mention of team names or persons has allowed us to narrowly avoid the jinx!

Happy day!
