1/17 Coyotes at Avalanche

Tonight's game features two teams on the outside of the playoff race - the Avs are currently 10th in the West and the Coyotes are 11th. The next few weeks are probably crucial to both teams' playoff chances.

The Coyote's might be a cure for whatever is ailing the Avs anemic offense of late - Phoenix has given up the 2nd most goals in the Western Conference. You also might see some powerplay goals - Phoenix and Colorado rank a dismal 27th and 28th on the penalty kill, respectively. On the powerplay, the Avs rank 7th in the league, with the Coyotes at 24th.

No published reports about which goaltender will be in net for the Avs, but apparently it us Budaj according to AM 560. Jordan Leopold is reportedly close to returning, and might play in the first game after the All-Star break (in nine days against...Phoenix).

In other news, the Bruins have traded Yan Stastny to the Blues, which means the Stastny brothers will not face each other this season (we have no more games against St Louis).

EDIT: 4:11 PM

Ben Guite has been recalled from Albany, again. With the need for help on the PK and faceoffs, I don't know why he was sent down to begin with.

Hot: Wojtek Wolski: 6 goals, 9 points, +3 last 10 GP
