Game 41: Islanders At Avalanche, Preview And Open Thread

I figured I'd get the game thread posted early today.

It's kind of a dark period for the Avalanche right now, considering the four-game losing streak, the injuries to Ryan Smyth and Joe Sakic, and the offensive slumps plaguing Paul Stastny, Andrew Brunette and John-Michael Liles.  The power play is now 27th in the league and the penalty kill is 22nd.  Luckily the Avs don't take a lot of penalties, but that discipline could wear off really quickly if they keep losing and start playing with frustration.

The good news is that Tyler Arnason is practicing again and is likely to return to the lineup for the upcoming road trip the Avalanche will begin next Tuesday against Detroit.  Just kidding.  That's not really good news, either.

Jose Theodore will be in net tonight against the Islanders, so add that to the "bad news" column, too.

I really don't have too much more to say about this game except that Colorado hasn't lost against a team from the Atlantic Division so far---they beat Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and the Rangers already this season.  Odds are they don't sweep the division, but hey, the losing streak has to end some time, right?

Let's hope it's tonight against the Islanders.

The game starts at 7 PM Mountain time, 9 PM Eastern.  Be here for tons of hot open thread action!
