Peter Budaj Named to Slovakian Olympic Squad

Peter Budaj was named to the Slovakian Olympic squad today, becoming the 2nd Avalanche to be named to an Olympic roster this winter (Ruslan Salei will represent Belarus). Budaj played for Slovakia in the 2006 Olympics (they finished 5th) and will battle Jaroslav Halak for playing time

Budaj's fellow countryman, Marek Svatos, did not make the squad. Svatos also played for the 2006 Olympic squad and was one of 21 forwards invited to Slovakia's summer camp but he was not one of the 13 forwards named to the team by GM Peter Bondra.

Milan Hejduk (Czech Republic), Paul Stastny (USA) and Craig Anderson (USA) appear to be the remaining Olympic hopefuls with the Avalanche. The Czech Republic team will be named tomorrow (along with Teams Canada, Finland, Germany and Switzerland) and the Team USA roster will be named on Friday during the Winter Classic.

[Edit:] Avalanche prospect Jonas Holos was named to Norway's Olympic squad as well.
