As you know, the NHL trade winds have begun to swirl lately. One of the Avalanche that seems most likely to be dealt between now and the March 4th trade deadline is Jordan Leopold. Leopold will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, his salary is dirt cheap ($1.5 million), and the Avs already have five defensemen under contract for next year.
If his asking price inched up with his shootout performance last night, it should have absolutely skyrocketed today. Earlier today, the Atlanta Thrashers traded defensemen Mathieu Schneider plus a conditional pick to the Canadiens for a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick. Schneider currently has 15 points to Leopold's 19. Throw in the fact that Schneider is 39-years old and makes 3 1/2 times Leopold's salary, and I'm itching to see what Francois Giguere can get in a trade.
Heck, I think he should call the Canadiens and see if they have a need for Tyler Arnason. NOW!
