March 6, 2000 - As a birthday present to yours truly, the Colorado Avalanche surprise the hockey world by acquiring Ray Bourque from the Boston Bruins. Bourque had been rumored to headed to Philadelphia or possibly Detroit, but instead he was Denver bound, with Bourque and Dave Andreychuk going to Colorado in exchange for Brian Rolston, Martin Grenier, Samuel Pahlsson and the Devils first round pick in the 200 entry draft previously aquired in the Claude Lemieux trade (Boston selected Martin Samuelsson with the pick).

It worked out somewhat well...
